BHS Students Honored by Valley View School District 365U
The annual Valley View School District 365U "Those Who Excel" luncheon honored top achievers from Bolingbrook High School at a recent luncheon.
The following is a compilation of students honored along with their accomplishments and future plans put together by Valley View School District 365U.
•Thomas Peterson, Academic Top Senior
Honors: Valedictorian of the Class of 2011, Illinois State Scholar 2010-11, Chicago Marathon Finisher 2010, Half-Marathon Completion 2010, Marcher of the Year 2009 and All-Academic Athletic Award for Tennis 2010.
Clubs, organizations: Trumpet player in Wind Symphony and Jazz Band all four years; Spring Musicals (Trumpet for Hello Dolly, Into the Woods and Annie), Raider Marching Band (Trumpet, Section Leader two years); National Honor Society Vice President; Madrigal Singers (Bass, one year); Sunrise Singers (Tenor, Baritone, Bass – three years); Tennis Team (Varsity – three years) and Graduation Committee.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend college to explore the field of neuroscience, with aspirations for graduate or medical school, while holding on to my musical aspiration by continuing to sing and play trumpet. My goal is to use my talents to help the people of the world live long, worthy and memorable lives just as the one God has given me.”
•Kristina Parro, All Around Female Student
Honors: Illinois State Scholar, First Honor Roll all four years; Music Booster Scholarship (2008, 2009 & 2010); Best Actress Spring Musical (2010); Most Promising Actress Fall Play (2010).
Clubs, organizations: Spring Musicals all four years; Fall Plays (2008, 2009 & 2010); National Honor Society Senior Citizen Prom Committee Chair 2010 & 2011; Color Guard (2010); Sunrise Singers Secretary (2 years) Member (4 years); Madrigals/Vocal Jazz Ensemble (VJE) Member (2 years); Thespian Troupe #3413 (2 years); Co-founder BHS’s Chapter of Students Against Violence Everywhere (2 years) and Freshman Volleyball “A-Team (1 year).
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Butler University in Indianapolis with a Major in Communication Disorders and become a Speech Pathologist.”
•Kevin Nepomuceno, All Around Male Student
Honors: Illinois State Scholar, Drum Major 1st Class, Drum Major Golden Whistle Award, National Honor Thespian 2010, and IMEA Bass: District Participant, Most Promising Actor in a Spring Musical 2008, Best Actor in a Spring Musical 2009, Best Fall Pantomime 2010 and played Oliver Wardbucks in the Musical “Anne”.
Clubs, organizations: Thespian Troupe 3413 (President), Sunrise Singers (President), Madrigal Choir (King), Raider Marching Band (Drum Major), National Honor Society (Committee Chair), Jazz Band 2, Symphonic Band, and Graduation Committee.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend either the University of Missouri in St. Louis, Columbia or Butler University with a major in journalism or English with hopes to become a new anchor or President of the United States. I plan to change the world for the better one way or another.”
•Amara Creighton, Outstanding AFJROTC StudentHonors: Air Force Association Award, Tuskegee Airman Award, Outstanding Cadet Award (2008, 2009, and 2010; Superior Performance Award, Distinguished Cadet Award, Attended AFJROTC Honor’s Camp in Oklahoma and 2010-2011 Wing Commander (cadet in charge).
Clubs, organizations: ROTC Drill Team; Kitty Hawk Air Society (NHS of ROTC); National Honor Society Junior and Senior year – Blood Drive Committee Chair 2010.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with a Major in Nursing. At UIC I plan on continuing in ROTC there which will later lead to a career in the military.”
•Alicia Kreier, Outstanding Art StudentHonors: Best of School in SWSC Art Show 2011; Illinois State Scholar 2011, Top Ten in Class of 2011; Second Place (2-D) in 2010 BHS Student Art Show; BHS Best (2-D) Art 2009-2010; Featured in 2009 JJC Area High School Exhibition.
Clubs, organizations: Technical Theatre (2007-2011); Assistant Stage Manager for three productions (MASH, Noises Off and Annie); two year member of National Honor society and two year member of International Thespian Society Troupe 3413.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Eastern Illinois University and pursue a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art with a 2-D Emphasis and a minor in Teacher & Technical Theatre.”
•Dakota Hicks, Outstanding Career & Technical Education StudentHonors: Received three Silver Second Place Ribbons at the FCCLA Regional and State Culinary Competitions.

Future Plans: “I plan on attending Johnson & Wales University in North Carolina to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.”
•Kimberly Kort, Outstanding English StudentHonors: Outstanding Biology Student, Interact Club Initiative Award, AP Scholar, Illinois State Scholar and National Merit Commended Student.
Clubs, organizations: Speech Team (Freshman & Sophomore), Interact Club and National Honor Society (Junior and Seniors Years).
Future Plans: “I plan to attend The University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma with a major in meteorology to prepare for a career in the National Weather Service.”
•Tsoi Yi “Emily” Chung, Outstanding ESL StudentHonors: Studying overseas, staying away from your parents and learning to be independent is a really tough thing for me to do. I made it this year. I think that it is an honor that I’ve done. Also, I have taken piano lessons for seven years and I have gotten permission to teach.
Clubs, organizations: Student Aide (2010), and Student Mentor in Math and the swim team in the Dominican Republic.
Future Plans: “I plan on attending college to pursue a career in a field related to engineering or medicine.”
•Ariel Massengale, Outstanding Female Athlete
Honors: Class 4A – Three times State Champion, Sun Times Player of the Year (2010-2011) Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All Star Team; Two times USA Gold Medalist; 1st Team All-State, Four times All Conference; Parade All American; Gatorade Player of the Week Team Captain for High School and USA National Team and Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year.
Clubs, organizations: Girls Varsity Basketball all four years and Graduation Committee.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend the University of Tennessee on a full ride scholarship with a major in communications.”
•Yomaira Silva, Outstanding Foreign Language StudentHonors: Illinois State Scholar; First Honors all four years; Sophomore Citizen Award and U of I Presidential Scholarship.
Clubs, organizations: President of Student Council Class of 2011; French and Spanish Tutor in Foreign Language Tutorial and a Volunteer at Bolingbrook Adventist Hospital.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend either Northwestern University or the University of Illinois to pursue a career as a Reconstructive Surgeon. I also would like to continue studying foreign languages such as French.”
•David Cooke, Outstanding Male AthleteHonors: First golf State Qualifier in Bolingbrook High School History; All-State placed 6th in State 2010; Most Valuable Player in 2008, 2009 and 2010; SWSC All Conference 2009 and 2010; Undefeated in all senior year matches and First Honors all four years.
Clubs, organizations: Student Community member at Community Christian Church; Mid-American Junior Golf Tour; American Junior Golf Association; Illinois Junior Golf Association; Bolingbrook High School Basketball freshman/Sophomore year and worked part time Junior and Senior year.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend either Illinois Wesleyan University or Millikin University with a major in business while continuing to play golf on the collegiate level. After obtaining my bachelor degree I plan on pursing a MBA.”
•Catherine Cheng, Outstanding Math Student
Honors: Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar, Top 10 in Class, 2010 Outstanding Careers and Technical Students, Business Professionals of America Mint Scholar, Outstanding Leadership in BPA and Outstanding Leadership in Class of 2011.
Clubs, organizations: Business Professionals of American President, Student Council Vice-President, Math Team and National Honor Society.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Northern Illinois University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Accountancy in pursuing a CPA career. Currently I am an Assistant Manager of Panda Express.”
•Brian Maule, Outstanding Music StudentHonors: IMEA District IX Jazz (three years); IMEA All State Honors Jazz Band; Illinois State Scholar; Mathletes State Finalist and Band Student of the Year Sophomore and Junior year.
Clubs, organizations: Mathletes (4 years); Pep Band (4 years); Madrigal Brass (3 years); Marching Band (4 years); Wind Symphony (4 years); Jazz Band I (3 years), Tech for Musical; Musical Orchestra and Youth Symphony of DuPage (2 years).
Future Plans: “I would like to become an Environmental Geologist and work for a consulting company in order to solve or facilitate issues people have with their surroundings. In college, I plan to participate in NIU’s many music ensembles playing bass trombone and I will also hold a place in Northern’s Honors Program.”
•Eric Schneider, Outstanding Science StudentHonors: Advance Placement Scholar; commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program; Top Ten in Class – Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior year; 2010-11 Illinois State Scholar.Clubs/ Math Team and Scholastic Bowl all four years;
Organizations: National Honor Society Junior and Senior years; Raider Marching Band all four years Society and Raider Marching Band.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Northwestern University with a Major in Biomedical Engineering. Medical research is my goal”.
•Patrick Johnson, Outstanding Social Studies StudentHonors: Top Ten in Class all four years and Advance Placement Scholar.
Clubs, organizations: Speech Team all four years; National Honor Society Junior and Senior year; Youth Leadership Team at Bethany Lutheran Church and Graduation Committee.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Double Major in Creative Writing and Economics. One day I hope to be a famous writer.”
