Director of imaging recognized by Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital
Bolingbrook – Recruited to build Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital’s new cardiopulmonary program, one can truly say director of imaging Mike Koerting is an all purpose man.
Since cardiac service and imaging are integral parts to the hospital, it is no surprise that Koerting had his hands full. He had the difficult job of building his department from the ground up. Many of his roles haven’t changed three years later. He is still heavily involved with acquiring accreditations, managing the cardiac catheterization lab, overseeing the imaging center, and most importantly recruiting and hiring the right managers and technologists.
“Staff is the key ingredient, and fortunately for me, I have the best,” said Koerting. “Everyone works so well together.”
For his commitment to Adventist Midwest Health’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ, Koerting was one of five Adventist Midwest Health leaders to receive the organization’s pillar award at the quarterly leadership development institute in June.
In 2011, under Koerting’s leadership volume and revenue increased in the women’s imaging center. The catheterization lab also achieved a 98 percent 90 minute door-to-balloon compliance in 2010 while posting 100 percent compliance in 2011. Door-to-balloon refers to the process when a patient arrives in the hospital with a heart attack to the moment the doctor is able to open the blood vessel, a very important time measurement. Ninety minutes is the national benchmark.
Of course Koerting has always had a strong work ethic. Beginning in high school, the Downers Grove native worked summers as a grounds keeper and in college as a transport tech, both with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. After graduating, he moved to Orlando, where he transitioned into cardiac catheterization lab manager. In 2002, he moved to Kettering Medical Center recruited for the first time by Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital’s chief executive officer Rick Mace. Since beginning his current position, Koerting has continued to expand his role into both cardiac service and imaging.
Koerting and his team are also celebrating other achievements throughout the hospital, including a fully accredited breast imaging center and a reconstructed physician referral system.
Currently Koerting is working to expand the women’s imaging center and create a full service biopsy program, while still pursuing more accreditations.
“From the first time I met him, I recognized Mike as a leader,” said Mace. “I needed someone to completely transform a department and Mike stepped up to the plate. He does a fantastic job and we are lucky to have him.”
Koerting lives in Bolingbrook with his wife Janice, director of case management at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, and two sons, Chandler and Connor.

Too bad the staff in ER SUCK!! They are the most back ward bunch of slackers I ever encountered!!
My dad was in major pain & they wouldn't give him anything for it!
There were other incidents also like the fact he was brought from the nursing home ACROSS THE STREET & they didn't admit him for an hour. Then they couldn't find him: they were informed that he is an Alzheimer's patient yet admission came in & started questioning him & of course he didn't know what she was talking about let alone why he was there!! I could go on but you get the gist how incompetent they are. Too boot, there wasn't many emergencies that night & the staff was joking right outside my dads room & other him having alzheimers it was agitating him!!
