Students Learn Study Skills from Wood View Principal

  • January 6, 2011

Being asked to meet with the principal can often mean bad news for a student. But that’s not the case for several dozen 4th and 5th graders at Wood View Elementary School in Bolingbrook who have been meeting with Principal Mark Stange since October to improve their math and reading skills.
Stange’s “ISAT Study Groups” meet for 35 minutes every three weeks during lunch and recess, learning study skills, reading strategies, comprehension and test taking skills.
“We trying to set some goals in their minds as to where they should score,” Stange said, as he and the Wood View staff look ahead to the Illinois Standards Achievement Test in late February and early March. “Doing this helps to encourage them. They are realizing they can do it if they give just a little extra effort.”
The three ISAT Study groups, who have been meeting since October, will continue to meet through the end of February.
