JOLIET – The May schedule of the Workforce Services Division of Will County’s six-workshop series has been released.

     “Workforce Services has developed some wonderful workshops to aid our residents,” said Will County Executive Larry Walsh, who oversees WSD. “These classes will give residents an edge when looking for and applying for jobs.”

     "Many of our customers have not needed to look for work in a long time,” said Susan Flessner, WSD Administrative Manager. “These workshops help them brush up on their job search skills, and maybe learn some new job search techniques that didn't exist five or 10 years ago."

      Resume writing workshops will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. Attendees may bring current resumes and have one-on-one reviews with WSD staff.

     Career Assessment will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 15. The workshop will help attendees determine which careers best suit their skills, abilities and interests.

      The Illinois workNet workshop will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 22. Illinois workNet is designed to help workers look for jobs online, research careers, and identify high demand jobs and wages.

     A session on job search skills will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 29.

     Participants will learn interviewing techniques from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23. After completing the session, attendees may schedule mock interviews. 

    Social Media Basics will be offered from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16. The course is designed for new social media users. Participants must have e-mail addresses and knowledge of Microsoft Office and the internet.

     All workshops will be held on the fourth floor of the JJC City Center Campus building at 214 N. Ottawa St. and are offered at no cost for Will County residents.

    In addition, Workforce Service’s computer lab will be open from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays except Memorial Day, May 28, and from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursdays for job seekers who wish to learn basic computer skills. Walk-ins are welcome at computer labs.
