Two Bolingbrook churches will hold "drive-thru" Ash Wednesday services Wednesday morning: Crossroads of Faith United Methodist Church in Bolingbrook and the Episcopal Church of St. Benedict.
Crossroads of Faith United Methodist Church's service will be offered from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday. A pastor will meet drivers at the pavilion at 1570 Rodeo Drive, where they will receive a blessing and ashes.
Crossroads of Faith started offering the "drive-thru" service several years ago, and it has grown in popularity ever since.
Crossroads will also hold a traditional Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.
The Episcopal Church of St. Benedict will hold Ashes "To Go" in its parking lot from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
"Maybe you aren’t sure you feel comfortable inside a church at this point in your life," the website said. "Or maybe you’re so busy with work and family that getting to a church service on a weekday is almost impossible."
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Christian season of Lent, which concludes with the celebration of Easter 40 days later.
