Bolingbrook Police: Victim Hands $7,000 to Thieves
The victim handed $7,000 in cash to two people looking for assistance in cashing a winning lottery ticket Oct. 26, according to Bolingbrook police.
An unsuspecting person with $7,000 cash on him or her lost that cash to two people claiming they needed help cashing a winning lottery ticket Oct. 26, according to Bolingbrook police.
The victim was approached on the 100 block of N. Bolingbrook Drive for assistance in cashing a winning lottery ticket. The victim gave the thieves $7,000 in U.S. currency. The group, including the victim, then drove to a second location where each thief ran from the car with the cash. This incident took place at 5:33 p.m.

This is a common scam. Advise to avoid them? If someone asks you for a lot of cash on short notice for any reason its probably a scam. The police will be happy to discuss any unique money requests for free before you do it, or consult your local attorney who will also easily identify scams. If its too good to be true, it is.

This had to be an elderly person and the other person had to be someone they trusted. It happened to my Grandmother and of course we didn't find out until many years later because she was embraced and she thought she could trust those individuals that robbed her. Good for you for calling the police and reporting the crime.
