Bolingbrook's Crime Rate Compared with its Neighbors

Bolingbrook's 2011 crimes and crime rate compared with those of Naperville, Romeoville, Plainfield, Lemont, Woodridge and Aurora.

Bolingbrook’s crime rate dropped for the fourth straight year, according to crime statistics recently released by the FBI.

Once riddled with a 25.09 crime rate in 2001, the village has seen its rate decrease to 18.86 in 2011. Full data of crimes is below.

The crime rate is the number of violent crimes that occur per 1,000 residents and is calculated by dividing the village’s total population by number of violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, assault), property crimes (burglary, larceny, car theft) and arson.

Is there a typo with the Bolingbrook and Naperville numbers? They're identical once you get to burglary etc.

Thanks for pointing that out. I got off a line on the Excel sheet. It's fixed now.

Plainfield has a higher crime rate than Bolingbrook - but the big crime in Plainfield is theft. Their rates of rape and robbery are much lower than ours. That shows how much the over-all crime rate hides. Thanks for including stats on specific crimes.

One other thing why some crime numbers are askew from one town to another. Some Towns don't file a crime report on minor crimes, I.e., theft and burglary to vehicle if the loss is minimal in property taken, thus a computer generated shift log is filed instead. So the shift log never makes it as a statistic with the UCR code and F.B.I.

Also it's known that UCR's codes can be fudged by P.D's to show different numbers in a certain crime, thus a drop in crime rate.
