Bolingbrook Woman Wins the Lottery

A Bolingbrook resident won the Illinois lottery Nov. 2 and vows to use the winnings to help others.

A Bolingbrook woman won $500,000 in the Lucky Day Lotto Nov. 2 with a ticket she purchased in Bolingbrook, according to the Illinois Lottery.

Lissette Quinones matched all five numbers – 01 - 06 – 16 – 33 – 38 – in the drawing.

“We are so blessed, and we always said that if we ever won a big prize we would help a lot of people," Quinones said. "We’re definitely going to stick to our plan.”

The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven, 398 South Schmidt Road in Bolingbrook. “I always play Quick Picks, I feel like they’re lucky,” Quinones said.

“I checked my ticket over and over and I kept asking the clerk if I really did win. Then I got in my car and screamed and cried. I feel so lucky. I’m going to tell everyone that people really do win the lottery – people like me!”

The store will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Plans for the winnings also include investing for retirement and traveling to Florida to visit her newest granddaughter, born just last month. “We’re going to take some time to make more plans, but we need to let this sink in!" Quinones said.

Illinois lottery law says the winner has to give their name.

First of all Disciple, why the need for another name change?

Secondly, you're wrong. You're only off by about $60,000. From the Lottery website, "25% in Federal tax is withheld from prize amounts over $5,000, and 5% Illinois state tax is withheld from prizes of $1,000 or more"

Congratulations! This gives me hope that one day I will win big. My only problem is that I have to start playing. Maybe I'll start playing.

God Bless you ! It's good to know there are neighbors helping neighbors in this day and age but my advice to the winner of any lottery would be too check out every "hard luck" story before handing over a dollar because unfortunately, these days, there are so many scams, cheaters, liars, ect. I sure wish you could just trust people, take them at their word, but, for so many, it just isn't so. Especially when money is involved ! Your own family will turn on you. This is a quarter if a million dollars. My family turned on me and left me hanging out too dry for under 30,000 . I hope they are careful. I think they will be though. They look like hard working, deserving people who needed a break. God Bless them !!

You can claim a lottery prize though a blind trust.....I'm just waiting for my numbers to come in!

After taxes it won't be that much. It is great if she and her husband can just plan to use it for retirement and to spend time with their new granddaughter. That isn't a lot of money in terms of being able to help so many people. Retirement is expensive and without companies providing pensions, most people aren't prepared.

Stef and Dana are absolutely correct. Most retirees are on a fixed income and that money will certainly come in handy for unexpected household repairs, health issues not covered by insurance or even long term care insurance, a new car, etc.

It's a good thing to win . . . only $500,000 and after taxes about $250,000. Keep it and help yourselves, invest for retirement and watch it grow back to $500,000. Have some fun, too!

Congratulations on your win! It's a blessing to win anything in this day & age & be able to help someone but i do agree that you make sure your money goes to someone who really needs it cause there are just as many scammers as there are needy! May God continue to bless you for having the heart to want to help others with your good fortune but 1st do whats more important - go visit your new grandchild! Happy Holidays.=)
