Police: Coyotes Spotted in Bolingbrook, No Attacks Reported
Bolingbrook police officials have said they have received several calls about coyotes walking around local neighborhoods.
Bolingbrook police have been getting multiple calls about coyotes roaming the village, police officials say. But none of those calls have been the result of a coyote attack.
But Bolingbrook Lieutenant Mike Rompa said coyotes should not be a cause of concern.
"They are genuinely afraid of humans but you always need to keep a safe distance," he said. "Small pets reflecting their normal pay—squirrels, rabbits, etc.—need to be monitored. They are looking for food, which becomes more difficult to find with the change of season."
Rompa said the same could be said for hawks and owls.
He said coyotes typically don't like noise, so an alarm or air horn can quickly deter their interest in a given area.
One Bolingbrook Patch reader has said their neighbors have reported seeing four coyotes walking down the middle Vista Drive last weekend.

We've been seeing coyotes in Bolingbrook for years. In fact, probably 7 years ago we watched one trot through the field behind Annerino while our son played on the playground and there were ball games going on. Give all animals a wide berth and

I saw coyotes last week. Both were crossing Remington Blvd between 53 & Veterans Blvd. Looked like both were large males.

We used to see two on a daily basis in Clow airport. Now, it's about once a week. We've also seen them walking through the airport and the Indian Boundary, Pheasant Chase and Winding Meadows subdivision. Last year there were a few deer in the same areas.

Funny to see this story this morning. Just last night around eight o'clock there was a coyote in our next door neighbor's back yard. We ran around outside kind of looking for it but it did not stick around long. This took place at 115th and Weber. There have been many nights, even recently, I hear them howling in the middle of the night. Also spotted several in an open area on the northeast side of the same intersection. They were on a hill and you could just see their silhouettes in the moonlight. Very cool.

Wish there were more! The one near our subdivision has taken care of a few stray cats and we haven't had one skunk stink up the neighborhood the whole year!

Coyotes are harmless to humans, unless they are in a pack. Then its time to load up.

My husband saw one across the street in our subdivision (Lakewood Ridge) a few weeks ago and it just kind of freaked him out because the night before he heard them (coyotes) howling.

I've seen coyotes around before, but never seen them make the local news. They have a unique howl and run away when humans approach. I've never seen falcons, but plenty of hawks perched on streetlights.

I've seen them often enough too, I'm usually afraid they're going to get hit by a car or something but I've never been afraid for my safety.

I have a few friends that are squirrels, MR.SQUIRREL amuses me with his antics. Hawks are always dive bombing across the field in front of my house. Last year our subdivision had a huge rabbit population. It was not unusual to see five or six jumping and playing in this field. GONE this year. Survival of the fittest, I guess? I did enjoy those bunnies too !!!!

I saw a fox last night. We thought it was a cat at first... they're so small! This one sneaking through a cul-de-sac near Briarcliff and Ashbury.

I've seen a coyote over by Janes and Falconridge across the street from the middle school. It was awhile ago though. Haven't seen any there recently.

I'm glad to hear about coyotes around, and every time I see our neighborhood falcon, I love it. Coyotes don't pose any threat to humans in any numbers as long as you aren't threatening them. Any wild animal should be given wide berth and treated with respect.

Joshua, that's a good point that we should keep our distance. I wonder if anyone has any good tips on how to photograph them. The only thing I can think of is dumb luck from inside one's home. Any good ideas out there on how to capture a decent photograph of a coyote?

Last summer/fall we had a coyote that Hung out in The Enclave subdivision in the middle of the day. Cool to see, but the coyotes and hawks do make me a little nervous for my two small chihuahuas (granted, they are never out alone).

Leave the coyotes alone, and they will leave you alone. Remember, they were here first.

A coyote was seen in Carillon with a small dog in its mouth and was shaking it. The dog is fine as the owner scared it off.

There have been coyotes in Bolingbrook for years. I think one of the reasons they are becoming more visible is because every last little parcel of land that they use for their home, is being sold and built upon. If you dont leave some land for them, their appearances will become more frequent and eventually there may be an attack. So leave them some land...... thanks!

Just 20 minutes ago we heard what sounded to be a pack of dogs barking and going crazy and one screech that I'm afraid was someone's dog getting attacked. We have a horrible coyote problem at 111th and King's Rd. They are constantly walking the streets at night. I'm scared to let my dogs out at night.

Jennifer there was a Mastiff killed in the subdivision close to King Road a couple weeks ago, maybe that is what you heard. The coyotes jumped the fence and killed the poor dog which was tied up I guess. We live right by the Forest Preserve in Augusta subdivision and hear them all the time. Today my husband heard that a girl and her dog were attacked by coyotes, she was bit and needed rabbie shots, the dog lost a eye and she spend already a LOT of money on Vet bills. My daughter came home one night and was chased by a coyote to the front door because he was after the kitten she was playing with. I had my huskie outside tied up the first winter we lived here, on the side of the house and when I went outside to get her in there were 2 big coyotes standing close to her. I yelled and screamed, they did not move, I just pulled my dog towards me really fast, but NEVER left her alone outside again. They are dangerious and will attack humans, they are NOT all afraid of us anymore, some are, some are not. So be careful and watch your dogs, kids and yourself, please!!

We've heard for the past week, every night, a pack of coyotes in the Indian Chase Meadows field across from Pioneer School. My home backs into this field so we've gotten an up close experience hearing definitely 3 or more coyotes howling wildly, and then driving every dog in the vicinity absolutely crazy. The thing is they don't go away right away. They're out there for 10-15 minutes. This is Definitely new. We've seen a stray coyote or 2 every year in winter passing through the park, but not since before the subdivision was finished being built have we heard packs of howling coyotes. I'm concerned because I have an old dog and not a fenced in yard. Are there any official police reports of the coyote attack stories above, or just rumors?

I live by Pioneer School too and the coyotes scare me to death of what they are capable of doing. I am an animal lover but don't appreciate the threat they pose to all the animals and children that play in the park. Its sad that I cannot walk my dog without the fear factor or leave her outside to enjoy the weather unattended. She is never out of my site. Are the authorities waiting for something bad to happen before they do anything about it. I understand the benefits of their presence, but is it worth the danger of them attacking a child who may think it's a dog? Its just scary. I saw one run across my backyard 3 mornings ago - yes it was daylight. Loud cars and truck driving by...so much for them not liking daylight or loud noises. Everyone, please be careful!
