Drew Peterson, Accused Bolingbrook Wife-Killer, Told to Stay Put by Appellate Court

Jailed for more than two years on murder charges, suspect learns he's not going anywhere, at least for the time being.

Accused wife-killer Drew Peterson’s latest plea to get out of jail again fell on deaf ears, as the appellate court shot it down last week and told him he’s not going anywhere.

Jailed since May 2009 on charges he murdered his third wife, Kathleen Savio, Peterson, 57, has been waiting on the appellate court to return a decision on what hearsay evidence can be used against him at trial.

The appellate court has been mulling over the matter for just shy of a year.

The murder charge in the Savio case stemmed from the then-40-year-old woman’s death in March 2004.

Savio was found drowned in a dry bathtub. At the time of her death, Savio and Peterson were embroiled in a contentious divorce. Still the state police quickly determined she died in a freak bathing accident and quickly closed the case.

But 3 1/2 years later, when Peterson’s next wife, the 24-year-old Stacy Peterson, vanished without a trace, the state police were forced to re-examine their investigation of Savio’s death.

Within a year and a half of Stacy’s disappearance, Peterson was up on a charge of murder in connection with Savio’s death.

Stacy Peterson remains missing, and the state police have publicly stated they believe she was the victim of a “potential homicide.” The state police also have publicly identified Drew Peterson as their sole suspect in the Stacy case, but have stopped short of actually charging him with harming her.

Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police officer who quit his job in the wake of Stacy’s disappearance rather than answer questions at an internal affairs inquiry, is being held at the Will County jail in lieu of a $20 million bond. His attorneys have tried without success in the last two years to get Peterson’s bond lowered while he awaits trial.

In recent weeks, it was learned that Hollywood star Rob Lowe would be playing the part of Drew Peterson in a Lifetime movie adaption of the  book Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Sergeant Drew Peterson.

The Appellate Court is wrong, wrong, wrong. It has taken them nearly a year and they still haven't made a decision on the State's Attorney's, unique law, enacted specifically for this case.

Guess what, they might uphold it, but the Supreme Court will shoot it down.

The coroner said the death was accidental.

A "for fee" television mope says it was a homocide.

How are they going to overcome the decision of the WCCoroner? They won't.

Peterson will be freed and just like that Fox case of a few years ago, the County insurance company will be paying Peterson millions when he files the lawsuit against Glasgow and the Sheriff's office and everyone else involved.

$2 million bond? Where is he going? No where. His son graduated #1 at Bolingbrook High School and they didn't even let him enjoy the moment.

Hope I become a juror....I'd give Peterson $10 million for that alone!

I'm no Peterson fan, but Bruno you hit it on the head. Everyone should be disturbed at how someone could be kept in jail with a bond that is not in line with others accused of the same, there appears to be next to no evidence and he's being denied a speedy trial. Just because you don't like him shouldn't mean you think it's acceptable for him to be abused by the system.

Uggh, hate to say this but I agree with you John Law. Glasgow was out of line creating a special "hear say" law to catch Peterson. God knows, I'm not a big fan of Drew, but I do believe in fairness. Wrong is wrong.

John (both 1 and 2). You seem to be ignorant about the fact that public opinion has nothing to do with the decision to keep Peterson detained while he awaits the decision. It was up to Judge White and 3+ appellate justices (for the second time) to decide if he should be allowed his freedom and they gave it the thumbs down. Neither your personal feelings nor anyone else's factor into decisions regarding where Peterson spends his time. Mr. Peterson has a hefty team of experienced attorneys. If they can't come up with a good legal argument showing why Peterson should walk then it's either their bad, or else they just have no good argument. 'nuff siad.

The above comments about the excessive bond amount and the hearsay law are right on. Drew will prevail in the end regardless of his actual guilt or innocence. You cannot create a law to custom try a case and the bond amount is way out of line. Drew will sue and will get millions from the county !

Fans or friends of Drew Peterson do themselvse a disserivce to knock the so-called Peterson Hearsay law, since that is the statute that the prosecution is now wokring against in this appeal which is holding up the trial.
"Drew's Law" is the only thing keeping most of the hearsay evidence out of his trial since it calls for higher standards of reliability than the common law hearsay exceptions which is what the prosecution now wants to call upon.
(BTW, the statute has nothing to do with Drew Peterson and was enacted as a way to better prosecute victims of gang/drug dealer hits.)
Drew Peterson and his fans should be lovin' the hearsay statute since at the moment its his best (and maybe only) friend. ;)

Petunia, where do you get your info from? "Drew's Law" was because of Drew. Glasgow stepped in it deep with this and realized he had to back peddle. So the trial is being held up on Glasgow trying to undo what he did. And the bail is way out of line considering you have some caught with the literal smoking gun in hand getting amounts half of this. Sorry, but right now we have just seen in the Casey Anthony trial what can happen with a lack of motive, witness statements or specific evidence. Body found in bath tub or body found in shallow grave, there's a similarity. She was found not guilty on most charges, I personally expected a hung jury. So with Drew I predict a hung jury most likely with "not guilty" being second. Based on what his case is to get 12 jurors to say guilty, highly unlikely. Again people have to remove their personal bias and go with facts. So based upon what we know (yes there can be more we are not aware of) does anyone really think 12 will convict?

If bail is set that high and several judges have denied Peterson's release, then there is obviously something of great concern in the Peterson documents. Why would anyone with basic common sense say there is no motive? Follow the money trail in the Kathleen Savio case. That is a motive that repeats itself all over the country. Stacy Peterson knew the truth and threatened to expose him. Two children equals child support, maintenance, and a possible property split with Stacy. Peterson wasn't going to let her walk out of that marriage knowing what she did. IMO

What a shame indeed that Kathleen Savio did not get to enjoy her son graduating 1st in his class. I was pleased to read, as well as see the video of Tom's speech. So glad that one of the quotes he decided to use came from his mom.

John Law- Caylee Anthony was skeletal. Kathleen Savio was not. Method of death can be determined in the Kathleen Savio case. That in itself it a big difference in the two cases.

You last four people who said give him a break?have you all been smoking crack? The a**hole killed two wives and got away with it for a long time cuz he WAS a cop THAT'S the only reason why he got away with it to start with. Anyone can be bought at any price. His son is also a dirty cop as well, I guess that apple didn't fall too far from its tree!! I know some cops from his old pd and I know what was being said and what they truly thought of him and trust me when he left there was no love lost there!! Also why the hell should he get any money from this tv movie that's being made about him?? We all know he'll get his cut from it. I say put the bastard in general pop and let the criminals have their way with him!!

He won't see a dime from any movies or book if and only if he is convicted because you cannot profit from a wrong doing. We may all think or know that he did it but if they can't prove it, which it sounds like they can't (that is why they are fighting over the hearsay) then he will go free. Yes it's a shame that people who commit murder get away with it but it is not as easy to PROVE BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT when someone commits murder. This isn't CSI, NCIS, or Law & Order, it's real life!

Walks like a duck, quack like a duck, it's a duck! Or in this case a Drew. First of all April I could not disagree more with you about the "COPS", the only people I find responsible is the upper administration in their police department. They heard the stories, they turned the other cheek. I was a friend of Drew's second wife, I am thankful she got out of it alive. That is because he already had a relationship with Savio going. This man is like Ted Bundy, very intelligent. The funny part is you have to wonder, he used to like saying people thought he looked like Tom Selleck!

So now let's look at the scumbag accused of murder in Lockport Township, the one with all the face tats. Read the story and his past arrests and his bail is only $2 million for killing a 14 year old boy. If anyone deserves a $20 mill bond it's a guy like this. But I guess the Judge views Drew to be a bigger threat than the repeat felon child murderer.

It's not always just about how dangerous they are! My guess is that Drew Peterson is a bigger flight risk. Yes you can argue that they can take away passports and freeze his accounts but as smart and smug as he is and the fact he has "connections" makes him more likely to be able to disappear.

He wil bide his time. He will walk. He will sue. He will win. They will prove nothing, because they just don't have anything. Will County law enforcement will be exposed for the incompetents that they are. Sad but true.

Did you hear, Casey Anthony and her attorney just signed with The William Morris Agency. A packaged deal. She's set to have a book deal, movie deal and a reality show. Will you watch it? To be frankly honest, I certainly will. The girl is a bona fide train wreck.

Once Drew springs out of jail and win his lawsuit against the County. Don't be surprised if he gets one too.

Also, have you heard about the petition through change.org called Caylee's Law? People are pushing to make it a federal law to make it a felony for a parent or legal guardian to fail to report their child as missing in a timely manner. Over 350,000 people have signed it across all 50 states in just the last 2 days!!! What are your feelings about that?

Here is the link in case you have not seen it. (May take a while to load because of volume of traffic). http://www.change.org/petitions/create-caylees-law

After the Casey Anthony trial Drew should be found not guilty, but he won't,because he doesn't fit the lefty liberal mentality that has taken over this country,if I was a juror picked when his trial begins I would vote not guilty in protest of the Casey Anthony decision, were has this country gone were???

I did not know he quit rather than answer questions. Only makes him seem even guiltier to me. I wonder if he thinks he will go scott-free, a la Casey Anthony, once his case makes it to trial?
