Lady Raiders Finish Season No. 2 in National Poll

On the heels of their historic championship season, the Lady Raiders were tabbed as the No. 2-rated high school girls basketball team in the country.

Given their not so recent history, the Bolingbrook Lady Raiders aren't used to being in second place.

But when tabbed by a national poll as the second-best team in all the nation, they'll surely take it.

After completing a historic three-peat earlier this month, ESPN HoopGurlz tabbed the Lady Raiders (29-2) as the No. 2-rated team in the country.

The only team better? Well, that would be one of two teams to beat Bolingbrook this season—Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)

Bolingbrook secured its third-straight state championship March 5 by defeating Zion-Benton 71-42 in the IHSA Class 4A State Championship in Normal.

The Lady Raiders led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a double-digit lead early as they so often did during their postseason run.

Later this month, senior guard and McDonald's All-American Ariel Massengale will play in the 2011 McDonald's All American game.

That game is set for March 30 at the United Center. Tickets to the game are available at Ticketmaster or by calling 1-866-909-4263. All proceeds go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.

Mater Dei California won its state championship so remains number 1 with Bolingbrook still in #2 spot on ESPN Fab 50.
