Lady Raiders Roll in Memphis, Top USA Today Poll

The Lady Raiders open the season as the nation's No. 1 girls basketball team.

The girls basketball team has made it clear that a national title is on its radar this season.

USA Today already has them there.

After winning their first two games of the season in the Memphis Central Turkey Jamm tournament, the nation's largest circulated newspaper has the Lady Raiders as the No. 1 rated team in its debut Super 25 girls basketball rankings, which ranks high school girls basketball games from around the country.

Three-time defending 4A state champ Raiders have eight players headed to Div. I schools. 6-2 F Morgan Tuck (20.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg), who has signed with Connecticut, is top returnee. Penn signee G Keiera Ray (7.2 ppg, 1.4 apg) and 6-1 F Cabriana Capers (5.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg), an Auburn signee also return. Junior G Kamari Jordan is top newcomer.

Bolingbrook, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, defeated Murfreesboro Riverdale 68-72 on Friday before disposing of Twinsburg-Ohio 50-47 on Saturday. According to the New Haven Register, senior forward Morgan Tuck led the charge with 26 points for Bolingbrook.

Twinsburg is ranked by USA Today as the 21st best team in the nation.

“We’ve always wanted to be the best," . "Not just the best in Bolingbrook. No just the best in the state of Illinois. We want to be the best in the country, so we try to go out and play the toughest teams out there.”

Smith's teams have played a national schedule for the last five or six years and have placed in the top 5 in the last four seasons.
