A condominium building in Woodridge was evacuated Thursday after authorities found potassium cyanide in one of the units, according to the Chicago Tribune

Potassium cyanide "releases hydrogen cyanide gas, a highly toxic chemical asphyxiant that interferes with the body's ability to use oxygen. Exposure to potassium cyanide can be rapidly fatal," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website

A "small amount" of the toxic chemical was found in the unit, according to the Trib. The chemical was contained and removed. No one was injured.

The building was located near 83rd Street and I-355 in Woodridge.

A little more info would be helpful. What is this chemical used for? Was the person making a bomb or something of that nature?

TP is right : Potassium cyanide is also explosive, it can level a full block depending on the amounts, 16 grams can nock out a full block if mixed correctly.
2 to 3 pounds can bring a super structure down within seconds. Very dangerous ingredient, why was this person in possession of it and how did he get it out of his employer? All items going in and out are to be searched, how did he get passed by security unless the officer was paid off to get it out , this business needs to be closed down... Or a Job for Jack Bauer....
