Small Airplane Makes Emergency Landing in Bolingbrook Field

An ultra light airplane that took off from Clow International Airport had to make an emergency landing in a nearby field, officials say.

An experimental airplane that had taken off from just moments before made an emergency landing in a bean field near the intersection of Essington Road and Rodéo Drive, police say.

Lieutenant Mike Rompa said the pilot began having mechanical problems when he realized he would have to make the emergency crash landing.

Rompa said the pilot was originally going to land the plan on Essington Road but decided on the bean field instead.

The pilot was not injured and was located via cell phone sometime later.

Rompa said the Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and the plane was towed shortly after the landing.
