Bolingbrook Church Pastor: 'We're Not a Threat to Anyone'
The pastor and founder of Ultimate Faith Christian Center in Bolingbrook addresses concerns his church would invite "drug addicts, ex-cons and the homeless" to the community.
Ultimate Faith Christian Center in Bolingbrook hopes to move to a larger space to better suit its growing congregation.
The center, which currently operates out of a storefront along W. Boughton Rd. near Tailgater's, looks to move to a vacated Walgreens property at the corner of Janes Avenue and 83rd Street. The Bolingbrook plan commission will vote to approve or reject the move at a meeting Wednesday.
The move has raised the ire of some Woodridge Patch readers, who fear the church's move will bring "drug addicts, ex-cons and the homeless" to their neighborhood. In specific, readers raised concern about community safety and the proximity of "drug addicts and ex-cons" to Woodridge's Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park.
Readers point to perceived threat to their safety based on a mission statement on Ultimate Faith's website that the church's "mission is to minister to those that have been given up on, the homeless, ex-offenders and those with addictions to teach them the word of God."
Ultimate Faith is "not a threat to anyone," said George Guilford, pastor and founder of Ultimate Faith. "We are upstanding Christian citizens."
George Guilford, pastor and founder of Ultimate Faith, said that mission statement was crafted 10 years ago. While his church will serve any person who enters the church who has struggled with these issues and minister to him or her, the church does not "load up a bus-load of criminals."
Most of his 70-person congregation have children. They're business owners or white-collar workers, he said. They travel from Naperville, Joliet, Woodridge and Aurora.
Guilford said his ministry has changed hundreds of lives. Ultimate Faith has traveled to homeless shelters and the south and west sides of Chicago to distribute Bibles and minister to people. Just one success story: a woman in the congregation who was previously homeless is now buying a home.
Ultimate Faith has operated previously out of a beauty shop on Frontage Road in Bolingbrook and out of the Bolingbrook Park District.
"We've never had any complaints, and we've never had any disturbances," Guilford said. "There are houses right behind (our current location), and some of the people who live in the houses behind us come to the church."
Guilford said he has been homeless and was in prison. "But that's the old me," Guilford said. After he became a Christian, "the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. I felt that God had saved me and delivered me from all my demons, and my misery had become my mission."
Now he has founded a church, become a minister and his children (Bolingbrook High School grads) are attending college on full-ride scholarships or performing academically at the top of their class, he said.
Ultimate Faith hopes to move to the former Walgreens location as soon as possible, Guilford said, and install carpeting, a sound system and a stage.
"It's a church," Guilford said. "It's not going to have a strip club."

Ultimate Faith Christian Center has been a blessing to our neighborhood. I've witnessed many healings as well as many lives being led to Christ. UFCC could only bless the area surrounding the former Walgreens building. This is truly an annointed house.

UFCC has tremendously blessed my husband and I. Our marriage has been truly blessed and restored. By becoming apart of this ministry, we have witnessed many lives being restored, changed and transformed. We've seen Apostle George Guilford touch lives in special ways. Women with broken past, broken marriages, children gone astray be fully restored in every area of their life. Women and Men with drug addictions fully delivered and recovered. There are more stories to name a few but not only that, these individuals are still apart of ultimate faith and the evidence of the testimony speaks for itself. God bless you Apostle George Guilford. We are so excited at the move of God at Ultimate Faith and we stand behind you every step of the way!!!

Ufcc had been a blessing to me. I drive from Naperville on occasions to hear the Man of God teach the word. He brings hope and change to the minds of many people, his teaching of the word of god makes you and helps you want change. I have witnessed people grow mentally and biblically. Hr had restored people's hope mended marriages and show how to gain financial freedom. God bless apostle George he would be a great asset to the wood ridge community. Lastagia Binghsm

Apostle Guiford teachings from God in my season of process has been a blessing and my Mother who is recovering from Cancer. I even see a major change of peace even in her mind and heart. This church brings freedom into the atmosphere. Men who struggles with so much insecurities they come to be restored. Marriages have been restored and I am being "RESTORED". You have people who has great careers, educated (like myself) and other professions. We are not taught to live in negative thinking but positive by the words we speak and the fruit we bear. We really need the mayor to help promote that location for business that will be income to the community. If Woodridge plans on building a new park district office where the 7-11, Gia's and the Cleaners we need to bring those business to Bolingbrook. It would keep a business thats been in the area for years and bring sales tax to the community. I am really opposed to a church that would bring convicts, drug users so close to Cypress Cove. There are plenty of locations in bolingbrook that would be a better location.

Woodridge plans to build the new Community Center at either the 7-11 corner or further south of Cypress Cove by the soccer fields. That is because this location is considered the center of Woodridge according to Mike Adams of the Park District. He pointed out in a meeting if you look at Woodridge on a map, this is the center. I disagree with this being the center of Woodridge as far as residents. Very few residents live south of this area. It is primarily Commercial/Industrial. So if you are worried about this church being too close to Cypress Cove for (3) months a year, it will be too close to the new Community Center for (12) months per year.

Ultimate Faith Christian Center is one of the best ministries I have ever been apart of..Apostle George Guillford is a man of faith and a man of integrity...My husband and I have been blessed since joining the ministry.. Society is the one that's a threat you've got people shooting up schools and movie theater and why????? Because we have taken God/Lord Jesus out of everything.. Society system will fail you, but what Ultimate Faith offers is a system that won't fail because it's rooted and grounded in love and love never fails... Ultimate Faith changes lives and I have seen people healed supernaturally by the masses..Diagnosis of terminal cancers miraculously healed by them stepping in to Ultimate Faith's door..ultimate faith is not a threat.. Rather it is a minstry that changes one life at a time.. A lot of people can speculate and have various opinions, but the if your and unbelieving come check it out for yourself that way your speculation can turn to transformation.

Based on the web site, I don't think Woodridge needs anymore troubled people coming into our community. I know we have plenty of people who need help, but attracting ex-cons to our pool/soccer area is not a good idea. I think we first need to worry about cleaning up Janes Avenue and the problems down there- not adding to it.

Folks, the southwest corner of 83rd and Janes is Bolingbrook, not Woodridge. To think that Woodridge has any control or influence over what goes on in their town, regardless of how close to Woodridge it may be, is rather naive. The dispute over the Rizzi property on Woodward showed just how little the villages care about what each other wants.

I absolutely love my church home, my Pastor, his family and my brothers and sisters there. Pastor Guilford preaches and teaches the Word of God and what the Holy Spirit gives him. Ultimate Faith Christian Center will not be a threat to the community. I see that there are quite a few sex offenders that lives in Woodridge. It seems to me you all are comfortable with sex offenders living probably right next door to you, but afraid of a church being in your neighborhood? Lives are being totally renewed and restored. Even sex offenders lives can be renewed and restored. If you all gave them a chance in your neighborhood, surely you can give others a chance.

Nicole I concur with your comment. I see there are sex offenders in their area and there is no complaint. I can't seem to wrap my mind around these who oppose a church being in their community. This shows what our society has come to. They don't want a church but would rather have other establishments in the area. Quite frankly, it doesn't make sense that some one would believe a rumor that a church would bring ex cons in the community to polute the land. Ultimate Faith has been around in Bolingbrook for years and has never been a reproach to the community. So what is really the problem...just doesn't make since the argument they have about the church.

The Community Resource Center (CRC) is located on the northwest corner of 83rd & Janes. During the school year, children walk to or are drooped off 4 days a week after school. And during the summer there are morning and afternoon sessions 4 days a week. While I think the church ministering to those in need is a wonderful and noble thing, I believe this is not the right place for it. There must be other property available that is better suited for them.

One thing was clear from last night is that those people attracted to this church and it's self proclaimed apostle in thousand dollar suits are the very people referred to in it's mission. Don't you people realize where your funds are going?
Now that the real estate market is finally showing some improvement the neighborhood around 83rd and janes is going to hit a plateau and stay there as long as that church is on the corner. The 5k sq foot homes to the west of the corner is going to be hit the hardest.
Woodridge has made a serious error in not objecting more strenuously to this proposal.
I fear the most for the children in the area. The people attracted to this church are only going to bring more of their kind and most wont want to be helped but will likely be here to help themselves. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but I'm not going to stick around to find out. Good luck to all who live there, god willing hopefully you won't need it.

I speak prophetically as I say, within the first year of the settlement of Ultimate Faith Christian Center in the old Walgreens location, Woodridge, IL. will benefit in lower crime and higher property values. Many of you will even visit the church and join this church
Since some of you are Christians, Jesus informed the disciples what was to come? Peter refused to accept this. Jesus didn't argue with Peter. He recognized the root of the opposition, and said "Get the behind me, Satan." Often, with Gods plan, Satan send demonic spirits to try to abort the mission. For all of those demons I say, "Get the behind me, Satan." If you flag this post, then you are the one who let Satan put his hand up your back for his plan.
God is going to show you just how powerful He is through this ministry. Your opposition to this ministry, and the things spoken about Apostle George Guilford is going to cause God to increase the anointing. The bible says, "Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm." God said, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
You can have objections, but if your heart is impure, I warn you that the wrath of God is going to unleash bringing to repentance.

"Prophetically"..."apostle"...these words have much deeper meanings than the way they are being used and those using them. When these words are used this way way it is usually an attempt to deceive and persuade those listening. I pray for those who fail to look before they leap.
It is a commendable venture this guilford is on (although I would to love to chew on his financial statements, but that would be abusing my position as well as ethically wrong) but it doesn't belong near schools and park districts.

Praise God! I am so excited about what my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is doing. It is such a shame to see all the negativity coming from some of these people on here. Why so much hate? Why so much bitterness in your hearts? I see someone wants to move away because of UFCC coming to 683 E Janes Ave. Really? Wherever you decide to move, you're still going to be miserable because there is a deeper issue within yourself that's going to follow you until you surrender all to our Heavenly Father or until the day you die. Again, as what was stated last night numerous of times, we are not coming to that area to bring harm, nor will it follow us. And also, if you have a Bible and read it, you would see that Christians should support their pastor financially. Whether his suits are $10 or $1000, should not be a concern. I know in my heart as well as other members of UFCC, Apostle Guilford is a true man of God. I knew him and his wife before he started his ministry and he was about Gods business even then. I know I may be all over the place typing this, but I'm typing what's on my heart. We are not being brain washed, bamboozled or tricked in this ministry. We are being taught the Word of God and how to live our lives according to Gods purpose thru His Word. We walk in love no matter how you feel or what you think about us...God bless you!

We had church services inside a park district where children of all ages were and we nor the park district had any issues. No harm was brought to anyone. Again, the issue with some of you are deeper than what you are putting on here. Think about it....most of us as members have children. Don't you think if this ministry was a threat, we would not be a part of it? To me, what is being said against UFCC is total ignorance. You have bad people living every where, even next door. We are not a threat to the community, nor is anyone who comes to UFCC wanting to change and give there life to Jesus Christ. No neighborhood is without crime. No one is attempting to say this area is without its issues. The goal would be to keep it at its current level and make attempts toward improvement.
But there is no denying who is attracted to this church. Commendable are its accomplishments for effecting so many lives. I admire anyone who is able to turn their life around. But rarely do attempts to change ones life succeed on the first, second or third attempts.
So while these attempts fail this neighborhood will suffer the consequences. The unfortunate are capable to take to extreme measures to obtain what they need and desire. Drug addicts bring down those around them and often spread their disease. Ex-cons will find new areas to exploit and people to victimize.
Good luck and god bless.

Are you attempting to say that you will succeed in changing the lives of everyone that comes through your door on the first attempt? Of course not.
1. Drug addicts, ex cons and the homeless are attracted to your door.
YES
2. Most will fail on the first attempt to get clean.
YES
3. When there is an increase of these in people in the area crime goes up.
YES
I really don't know how anyone can dispute these statements. A simple look at history will tell you that when there is an increase in these types of individuals in an area crime goes up. The new building will only increase these types of individuals in the area.

Michael Clatworthy, I would like to speak up on behalf of the EX-DRUG ADDICTS. I was addicted to crack cocaine, alcohol, criminal acts, and nicotene. I stumbled up into the gymnasium when UFCC was there ,and I was in total despair. There I heard a word that unlocked something inside of me that gave me the will to want to take my life back. To God be ALL the Glory because there at UFCC is where I recieved true deliverance. I thank God for a place that I could go and that there was a person sent by God that could relate, be transparent, and roll his ( and lets not forget his wife) sleeves up and walk me thru with the word of God. The bible says He sent His word and it healed them of their diseases and delivered them from their destruction Psalms 107:20. The bible also says I could do All things thru Christ which strenghthens me. And lets not forget it also says ALL thing are possible to those that believe. I would've never known this if those doors and hearts wasn't open to me.

Your accomplishments are no doubt admirable, but they are in the minority. I have my opinions because I have young children in the neighborhood and realize that not all who seek to change their lives are successful.
I will also say that I have spoken to clergy in the area as well as a close relative who is a monsignor and they agree that you should keep those you seek away from children.
I need to ask what does this mean: "AMEN and after 32 years of addiction I am now FREE and mind you haven't takin but 1 step to JESUS." My education consisted largely of mathmatics and science and not grammer. But your sentence sounds as though your telling me that I haven't taken but 1 step toward jESUS. if that is what your saying I would respond that I have an uncle and dear friend who is a 45 year priest and monsignor. As well as a relative who was beatified in '82 and canonized in 2010. I was raised, educated and married catholic. What gives you the right to say that about me? I have never lost my faith or used drugs or committed any even remotely serious crimes.
I am only concerned with keeping my children and neighborhood safe. This church while noble in its efforts will attract those mentioned in its mission and not all will be successful.

We'll continue to roll up our sleeves and go in the trenches for anyone who needs it. It's sad to read that people are more concerned about their neighborhood, and property (material things), and not concerned or have compassion for anyone else. You can't take your neighborhood to Heaven with you, because the bible says there are many mansions in Heaven. Your house in Woodridge is nothing compared to the mansions that we will have in Heaven. I want to hear "Well done, my good and faithful servant". I'll pray that when they stand before God, he'll have mercy on them. Because you see, he'll remind them of the fact that He placed a church right in their neighborhood for them, and they rejected Him. Yes, Him, not Apostle Guilford. I am sure all residents would rather not want it but getting their signatures is another and given the population of bbk it would take 2K signatures to get notice not 200...legal means I have not had a response from a lawyer willing to take it on and I have pursued a few, there are statutes that can help and cases where this situation has been prevented if we can prove it is a detriment, and that's easy. But we need to find a lawyer willing to take it on and it certainly won't be free.
I wish I had the funds but I do have some other ideas that I am pursuing but they will likely take information that is tough to come by. I am working on it but not counting on it.
More information about his credentials and financials about UFCC would be the most help. Also knowing more about which networks he is on will help.

Praise is what I do...doesn't sound like it would need to be anonymous. As a fraud investigator I have to admit it really isn't anyhow.

The single family home areas nearest the location stand to lose the most. They are very diverse, safe and content. All posts for this church are ignoring that the church's mission will undoubtedly attract those mentioned in it. They are blinded by what the potential ends could mean- a more religious and cleaner community but it is not this community that requires.
I hate beating dead horses but...this church's focus is no doubt noble but will have its bumps in the road like any organizatiion. Unfortunatly those bumps will be occuring in our backyard and include drug addicts and excons.
I fear what those bumps will actually be.
