Village Won't Ask Residents to Pay For Yard Waste Disposal

Officials plan to repeal an ordinance requiring residents to purchase stickers in order to have yard waste picked up.

After some outcry by residents, officials will not require them to purchase stickers in order to have their yard waste picked up.

Last month, village officials approved the $2.50 sticker for each bag of yard waste and bundle of sticks left at the curb for Groot to pick up.

However, at Monday's board meeting Mayor Roger Claar said due to residents' concern the ordinance will be repealed.

Bolingbrook Trustee Mike Lawler said he and other officials heard numerous complaints from residents about the fee.

“We understood their concerns,” he said. “We probably have the most comprehensive service in the area — to have this much coverage for refuse, curbside pickup and being able to put out large items. So when you try to take that way or modify it people get used to it and are concerned.”
