Meet Bijou, she's a 2 1/2 year old standard poodle that lacks in confidence big time. Bijou was badly abused by another pet stylist as a puppy and that had ruined any positive feelings she has towards being groomed. Her last few groomings were done at a vet office because it was recommended that she should be sedated for her groomings. Her mother wasn't happy, but agreed to it for the safety of the stylist and Bijou. Then the vets office recommended that she be put completely out for groomings, her mother elected it was time for a change.

Several months went by as her mother worked with her behavior and tried frantically to find someone to groom her. Then one day she read an article in the paper about The UpScale Tail and gave us a call. We recommended that she come in for really quick visits (or "meet and greets" as mom calls them) several times a week. Bijou's mother followed our instruction to help her gain our trust and we lengthened each trip. After a few weeks she actually stopped barking at us, she engaged us, gave kisses and even took treats! She was scheduled to be groomed on Valentines day so her mother brought her in every day that week and started leaving her with us to help her gain confidence and trust in us.

When it came time for her grooming, we elected to not have her sedated at all. We worked together as a team to help Bijou feel better about her grooming experience. It will take keeping the consistency of regular haircut appointments and weekly "meet and greet" visits to help her overcome her fear based issues. We couldn't have asked for a better Valentine and vow that grooming will be better for her from now on.  We do understand that it may take several months before Bijou comes excitedly running thru the doors to us. Please keep in mind that not all dogs are the same, they are their own individual puzzle and their issues get worked out differently, sometimes it takes longer that others. If you have a dog with issues, do them a favor and go the extra mile to find good trainers, and a good stylist that will work with them. Always listen to them and practice their advice.

Much love! 💜💜💜
