Will County employees share warmth with local families during holiday season

JOLIET –  Will County employees and Daughters of the American Revolution have shared the warmth of the season by donating hats, gloves, mittens and scarves to local families in need.

It was the fourth year the County has held a hat and mitten drive and the second the DAR has joined them.

This year’s collection was distributed Wednesday, Dec. 18, among 152 families as part of the Will County Center for Community Concerns’ annual holiday dinner basket program.

County Executive Larry Walsh has led the mitten drive and is proud of the generosity of county employees. He also said he is proud of the partnership that has developed with the local DAR chapter.

“To see the happiness on the faces of the children who receive these mittens and hats is truly priceless,” said Walsh. “The generosity of our employees and the ladies of the DAR chapter continues to impress me.”

In addition to the holiday food baskets, the WCCCC also hosted a Christmas party for the families including a visit with Santa Claus for the children.

“We are happy to provide these families with the ingredients for a healthy holiday dinner along with some special treats,” said Kris White, executive director of the WCCCC. “Our partnership with Will County and now with the DAR helps us ensure our families have a Merry Christmas.”
