Martin Luther King Jr. Day: What's Open, What's Closed in Bolingbrook

Federal offices, schools and other institutions will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Federal offices, schools and other institutions will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21, to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The holiday honors Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, which is Jan. 15. 

The federal holiday is always observed on the third Monday of January. 

WHAT'S CLOSED

Village, county, federal and state offices, courts

Schools 

All schools will be closed to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

Banks 

Most banks and financial institutions will be closed. 

Post office 

The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail on Monday. 

WHAT'S OPEN 

Fountaindale Public Library 

The library will screen documentaries of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement from noon to 8 p.m. 

Trash and recycling pickup 

Trash and recycling pickup will not be affected by the holiday. 

Most businesses 

A recent Bloomberg News survey found that 30 years after the holiday was enacted, only 32 percent of U.S. businesses close for MLK Day
