Trans-Siberian Orchestra, add flickering, multi-directional strobe-like bursts of light, and the result is  “Symphony in Lights,” the largest, most energetic, innovative, public holiday light show in the country that twinkles and shimmers as it illuminates the million-square-foot Promenade Bolingbrook Shopping Center in Bolingbrook, Ill.

The show is designed to fit its environment. Spectators at The Promenade Bolingbrook’s show will experience an “in the round” viewing phenomenon, as 40 life-sized snowflakes dance around a massive 48-foot tall tree in the center’s Village Green gathering area. LED lights at the Center run the entire show on the amount of energy needed to power only one average-sized home.

The collaboration on The Symphony in Lights Show at The Promenade Bolingbrook Center, involved more than 75 people in six states and includes 60 miles of electrical wire; ½ mile of steel cable; 6,000 ornaments and more than 1,000 hours of computer programming.  The Symphony in Lights holiday light show extravaganza will run hourly in the evenings throughout the holiday season.

The spectacular light show was the brainchild of a talented group of artists and was inspired by the holiday light and music show designed by artist Carson Williams for his home in Mason, Ohio. Using music from Trans-Siberian’s “The Lost Christmas Eve” CD, Carson’s light display was featured on YouTube, then NBC’s “The Today Show” and finally in a Miller Lite beer commercial.  Forest City’s vice president of marketing was impressed and took it to the next level, contacting Carson and John Carter, design director for Parker 3D, a New York-based design firm.  John has designed and executed sculptural, interactive displays around the world, including holiday windows for major New York City department stores.

Symphony in Lights came to life at The Promenade Bolingbrook in 2007.  Now in its fifth season, the show is famed as “the largest commercial holiday light show of its kind in Chicagoland” and attracts visitors all throughout the area and surrounding states.

The Promenade is an open air shopping district featuring specialty shops and restaurants including Macy's, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, iPic Theaters and many other fine retailers. The Promenade is a pedestrian-friendly gathering place for shopping, dining and entertainment.  To view the 2010 show, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1F0tCgoy5w.  For more information visit www.thepromenadebolingbrook.com
