Peterson Lawyers Ask Lifetime to Cancel Movie Project

Lawyers say movie could taint future jury pool.

Eager to see Rob Lowe portray Drew Peterson in the upcoming Lifetime movie, currently shooting in Los Angeles?

Not so fast.

Lawyers for Peterson are demanding that filming for the movie be halted, arguing it invades his privacy and is nothing more than a "character assassination" that would "prejudice any potential jury pool," according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The lawyers, according to the report, ask the makers of the movie to "cease and desist" all work on the movie by Friday or face legal action.

"Please govern your conduct accordingly," attorney Walter Maksym ends his seven-page letter to Lifetime Entertainment, A&E Television Networks, Disney and others.

The letter (read it here) was also sent to actor Rob Lowe, the Huffington Post reported.

In June, it was announced Lowe, who currently stars on NBC's sitcom Parks and Recreation,  in the Lifetime movie.

The film was tentatively titled The Drew Peterson Story or Ladykiller. But according to People, the movie will be titled Untouchable and is now shooting in Los Angeles.

The movie will explore the two cases in which one of Peterson's wives was killed and another mysteriously disappeared and is based on Shorewood Patch Editor Joseph Hosey's nonfiction book, Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Drew Peterson.

"I have to say, it's an interesting choice," Hosey said. "They're really going to have to ugly him up, but that's showbiz, I guess."

Peterson allegedly drowned his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in March 2004 but was not arrested until the disappearance of his next wife, Stacy Peterson, attracted attention to her death.

The former Bolingbrook police officer recently was the focus of a  titled Waiting for Drew Peterson

Earlier this month, Peterson’s latest plea to get out of jail fell on deaf ears, as an appellate court shot it down and told him he’s not going anywhere.

Jailed since May 2009 on charges he murdered Savio, Peterson has been waiting on the appellate court to return a decision on what hearsay evidence can be used against him at trial.

The appellate court has been mulling over the matter for just shy of a year.

An airing date for the movie has yet to be announced.
