Bert Miller Files Nominating Petitions for 11th Congressional District

Area businessman Bert Miller today submitted his nominating petitions to run as a Republican candidate for Congress in the 11th District of Illinois

Cites newcomer role to politics in effort to "get beyond the gridlock"

NAPERVILLE, IL – Area businessman Bert Miller today submitted his nominating petitions to run as a Republican candidate for Congress in the 11th District of Illinois. Miller cited his newcomer role to campaigning as he took the next step toward getting the chance to improve the district's economic climate and fix Obamacare.

“I've never run for elective office before, so this is all rather new to me," Miller said. "But it's exciting, and I'm thankful for the support of so many voters who believe, like I do, that we need someone in Congress who can get beyond the gridlock and the partisan bickering and get something done."

While this is his first bid for political office, Miller has spent his career as a successful businessman. For the past three decades, he's run Phoenix Closures, a manufacturer of plastic bottle caps and lids headquartered in Naperville, Illinois.

He is a former Chairman of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and board member of the National Association of Manufacturers. In addition, he served on the boards of Hales Franciscan High School, a South Side institution dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth prepare for higher education, and the Big Shoulders Fund, a group with a mission to provide support to Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner city Chicago.

"Our district is in real trouble, unemployment is still too high, but Bill Foster doesn't seem to notice," Miller said. "And we have Foster to thank for Obamacare. I'm committed to going to Washington so we can fix this healthcare debacle."

Miller pledged to promote economic development while keeping important safety net programs in place. He's already been busy meeting with a variety of groups around the district to hear their concerns and to communicate his message.

"I think things can change for the better," Miller said. "We can fix Obamacare; we can put Social Security on sound footing; and we can help create a better economic climate.”
