Former Ditka Sports Dome Gets New Name, Revamped Digs

The facility's restaurant, called McQ's, opened Saturday.

After purchasing the Ditka Sports Dome in March, Chicago businessman Jim McWethy immediately got to work.

Also owner of in Romeoville, McWethy ordered a total remodeling of the establishment located at 730 N. Bolingbrook Drive. And with those changes comes a new name for the site: Bolingbrook Sports Dome.

McWethy, who is also in the process of renovating Mistwood Golf Course, said the Bolingbrook Sports Dome will be “one of the best in Chicago for golfers.”

But no balls will be struck there until November. McWethy said first use of the 62,000-square foot facility will come in October when the annual haunted house is installed there – by the same operators who successfully provided that attraction in previous years.

Once the haunted house is dismantled, the heated driving range will be on two levels, with 48 hitting stations available. McWethy said the back wall of the dome is 90 yards from the tees, making it one of the biggest indoor golf facilities in the Chicago area. He said upgraded putting greens have been installed, and there is also a chipping area that includes a sand practice bunker. More flat screen televisions will also be in use throughout the golf practice area.

“This is really an exciting time for us," said McWethy. “It’ll be a state-of-the-art facility for golfers, and for those in the community.”

The facility’s restaurant and bar, called McQ’s, opened Saturday. The sports bar opens daily at 11 a.m. Mistwood’s award-winning chef, James Shamet, is in charge of the menu, which he said will will feature produce from McWethy Farms, a pesticide-free hydroponic farm in Southwest Michigan, as well as an area-favorite: barbecue.

“Our new state of the art smoker will give the food a lightly smoked flavor while keeping it incredibly juicy and delicious,” Shamet said. “When you add three to four different homemade sauces, you have a guaranteed winner.”

The restaurant can seat 100 people for lunch or dinner, and will offer about 20 large flat-screen televisions as well as a dance floor. Outdoor dining is also possible.

Another perk of McQ’s?

McWethy said golf bag racks have been added to the restaurant area. That means golfers won’t have to lug golf equipment to their cars in winter conditions before experiencing the bar-restaurant offerings.
