Illinoisans Defend Traditional Marriage

Illinoisans can help gather petition signatures to get the definition of marriage on the 2012 ballot, giving all Illinoisans a voice via an advisory referendum on this important issue.

There has been a lot of celebrating over the past few days now that homosexual couples can officially enter into civil unions. But not everyone is celebrating.

The Illinois Defense of Marriage Initiative  launched May 27 with a rally in the Chicago loop at St. Peter's Church. The initiative seeks to get an advisory referendum on the 2012 ballot - protecting marriage between one man and one woman -  and needs to submit 300,000 petition signatures by the April 23, 2012 deadline. Rally speakers included former Republican gubernatorial primary candidate, Adam Andrzejewski, and ex-gay, Linda Jernigan.

Civil union supporters claim this is about rights, but Andrzejewski said, "This debate is not about rights. It is about a minority forcing the majority to redefine institutions. It is not tolerance they want it is about a forced acceptance that they demand."

Civil union supporters claim this is about civil rights, but Jernigan said, "I am offended when I hear the homosexual agenda linked to civil rights. I am a black woman...me being black and me being a woman, that is a civil right, because that can not be changed. But there was a time about ten years ago that I was a homosexual. But don't you know that on today that behavior has been altered by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Civil unions are a stepping stone to more radical changes with the goal of normalizing homosexual behavior. Consider what same sex "marriage" has done to Massachusetts

The advisory referendum question will state:

“To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for our society and for future generations of children, the union of  one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as a marriage or similar union for any purpose?"

In 31 other states, every time a similar question has been put before the voters, voters have said yes to retaining the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman.

Shouldn't Illinoisans have a voice on this important issue via citizen referendum? If you think so, please download a petition and instructions and help Illinoisans defend traditional marriage.
