Five Last Minute Father's Day Gift Ideas

Still trying to decide what to buy dad? Bolingbrook Patch offers a few suggestions.

My father always tells me not to buy him a thing. Doesn’t matter what the holiday is: Father’s Day, Christmas, or even his birthday.

If anyone does buy him clothes, the shirts better be a medium. If someone happens to insult him by giving him a large, he will refuse to even look at it.

Needless to say, I’m still considering what to buy my dad for Father’s Day. He will probably get a shirt—size medium—and a book.

For the golfer

When you think Father's Day, many people's mind flows straight to the golf course. And dad's are no different.

Head over to the , where dad's golf for free if he comes with a child.

Boughton Ridge is a nine-hole, executive-length public golf course which also features a restaurant/lounge called  restaurant.

For the thinker

If your father likes a challenge, can think on his feet or in his seat—if he commutes to work—why not consider some of the brainteaser games and books offered at , which has a variety of games, puzzles, crosswords and other items for sale. This is a great option if dad rides the train and needs a gift to keep him busy while stuck on the BNSF or even while lounging outside on a nice summer day.

For the after-hours lounger

During a trip overseas I stopped at a duty free shop and found my dad some scotch whiskey. I don’t remember how much the booze cost, but it was one of the best gifts I ever gave my dad. He loved the smooth taste. If your dad enjoys a glass of whiskey or maybe another beverage then visit one of the many local liquor stores, maybe  or , where they will set you up with a gift dad will remember.

For the man cave man

Does your dad own an interest in Duck Tape? Does he take to his man cave for projects on a regular basis? Does he clean his tools and neatly organize them? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you need to hit the hardware store, whether you stop in at Home Depot, Lowe’s or , it is a good guess that anything project related will please your father. Maybe a new wrench, an impact driver or even a new level.

If none of these ideas suits you there are always gift cards, books, music and clothing. Or, as oneFacebook friend mentioned, she took a photo of her son with the cut-out word "Papa" and will frame it for his grandfather. Sounds like the perfect gift.
