Five Things to Know This Weekend: Aug. 19-21

Looking for things to do? Stuff to know? People to meet? We've got it all in our "Five Things" feature.

1. Bolingbrook Jubilee!

The will be held throughout the weekend and will feature many family-friendly events, including a carnival, craft show, classic car show and a bags tournament.

The carnival will also feature musical performances, bingo, food and beer, among other events.

Jubilee hours will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday; noon to 11 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.

2. Group Holds Community Back to School Block Party

"Single Mothers Of Culture nfp" is hosting a back to school block party. There will be plenty of entertainment, giveaways, raffles, "An American Girl" doll, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, food and vendors on site.  

The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 100 Mellbrook Rd.

The  is inviting members of the community and surrounding areas to join them on a delegation trip to the Costa del Sol of Spain in 2012. 

Travelers will visit the coastal cities of Malaga, Granada, Mijas, Seville and Gibraltar. An optional trip to Tangier in Morocco will also be available, as well as a three day extension to Madrid. 

“Costa del Sol is visited by millions of tourists each year and is one of the most beautiful places on our globe. We are excited to offer this opportunity to our community next spring,” said Mike Evans, President and CEO for chamber. “These are not your typical business trips, though business opportunity is available.  Rather, they are designed to offer educational experiences, unique perspective on global economies, and the ultimate satisfaction in tourism.”

Future delegation trips will be offered to Peru, Ireland, Hong Kong, Italy and beyond.

Looking for a bargain?

Head on out to Silverado Court today or Saturday for an enormous multi-family, multi-house garage sale. Tons of toys, housewares, kids clothing, adult clothing, electronics including Playstation, DS, Leapster, Gameboy, furniture, bikes, hockey gear, tons of books, VHS tapes, computer, treadmill and so much more. 

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
