As part of our Teen ComiCraze on Saturday, September 10th, we will be having a Superhero Drawing Contest! Teens, gr. 6 - 12, can submit artwork beginning August 20th until September 6th. This is a correction on the dates listed in any previous PR materials.  Now yes, you can do a drawing based on an existing character, but we'd love to see your original superhero creation! Please make your drawing no larger than 11" x 17" inches.  Please bring your drawing to the Teen Services desk and fill out a submission form. Winner will be announced at the end of the Teen ComiCraze and will win a prize!

If you are a graphic novel fan, sign up to attend our Teen Comicraze on Saturday, September 10 @ 1 pm? We'll celebrate our love of comic books and superhero characters throughout the day with various activities.

  • From 1-2pm, vote on the superhero drawing contest, sign-up for the debate and meet some of your favorite characters in person! Don't forget to bring your camera!
  • At 2pm, we will begin our "Why my villain/hero would ruin/save the world?" debate followed by a light snack.

5. Today is National Toasted Marshmallow Day!

Did you know today is National Toasted Marshmallow Day? Neither did we. Well, at least until we looked it up.

From punchbowl.com

With summer almost over, tonight is the perfect time to host a campfire for some old fashioned marshmallow toasting.

The history of marshmallows dates all the way back to ancient Egypt. Pharaohs used to eat the sweet extract that comes from squeezing mallow plants. It wasn't until the 19th century that marshmallows evolved to become the delicious treats we know and love today.

Gooey and sugary, marshmallows are great ways to end the summer. On this day, grab a stick and a bag of marshmallows and head outside to toast some marshmallows. Gather family and friends to exchange memories and a few laughs. After all, summer won't be here much longer!
