Our new fall menu features a Thanksgiving Turkey wrap with stuffing and cranberry sauce, bacon-wrapped jalepeno poppers, whipped butternut squash and more. Our warm, bright dining room is the perfect location to take in the fall colors while sampling some new dishes.

Businesses will learn how to save green while being green at a fast-paced, business-to-business seminar on Oct. 12.

The Resource Recovery and Energy division of the Will County Land Use Department will host the Save Green Business Seminar from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 12, in the Main T-1002 building at Joliet Junior College.

“This is a day when it will pay to be away from your business,” said Will County Executive Larry Walsh, who oversees the Land Use Department. “Six speakers will share ways to save money while reducing the amount of resources used.”

Speakers will be:

  • Karrie Gibson, Chief Executive Officer of Vintage Tech Recyclers, will share best practices for end-of-life electronic devices that are cost effective, environmentally friendly and ensure data protection;
  • Marty Whalen of Martin Whalen Office Solutions will explain how switching to efficient copiers can save $174 in annual usage costs per copier;
  • Vuk Vujovic, Director of Sustainable Design of Legat Architects, will discuss JJC’s conversion to geothermal heating and cooling, and how such a switch can cut 80 percent of a firm’s heating and cooling expense;
  • Chris Johnson of InterfaceFLOR will provide information on a variety of flooring options from sustainable sources to recycled content that are good for the environment and expenses;
  • Jeff Woodward, Senior Manager for Global Environmental, Health and Safety for Panduit Corp., will speak about a variety of topics impacting the bottom line, focusing, in part, on the new Panduit World Headquarters in Tinley Park that utilized bioswales, gray water, energy efficient and natural lighting, innovative computer networking and security devices, recycled materials and more.

An optional tour of the newest building on the JJC campus featuring many cost-effective energy-efficient upgrades will be offered at noon.  

The $15 fee includes a breakfast buffet. To register, call the JJC Training Center at (815) 280-1555 or through the willcountygreen.com website. Opportunities for vendors to have booths are also available for $35.  Already signed on to offer rebate information and savings ideas are Nicor, ComEd, Illinois Recycling Association and Go Green Light Solutions.
