City officials point to Bolingbrook as an example of where outsourcing crossing guards has worked.

Bolingbrook is in the Valley View School District, which has schools in Bolingbrook and Romeoville. Crossing guards in Romeoville, like in Joliet, are overseen by the police department. Bolingbrook crossing guards come from Aurora-based Andy Frain Services.

The switch to Andy Frain was made two years ago, said Leroy Brown, safety director for Valley View schools. The company hires crossing guards who live in Bolingbrook and Romeoville.

“It’s been working out good,” Brown said. “It’s just that sometimes someone doesn’t show up, and we have to call a supervisor to get someone there.”

3. Gordon Biersch Set to Tap FestBier Today

From the Gordon Biersch Facebook page:

Gordon Biersch FestBier celebrates fall and the flavor profiles of beers served at the modern day Oktoberfest. Originally, the Oktoberfest was held in the middle of October. The brewers created the modern day Oktoberfest beer with a lighter body than Märzen but a more robust, hoppy flavor, resulting in FestBier. The maltiness is created via a combination of dark-roasted Munich malt and pilsner malt, and the hoppy aroma is achieved via the imported Hallertau and Tettnang aroma hops. FestBier is available seasonally from August through October.
