Sabre Hockey Association presents Girls' Hockey Day at in Bolingbrook on Sunday, Oct. 2nd from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The Will County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a Local Alcohol Program grant and a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

The LAP grant total was $196,797, and the STEP grant was $56,832.

The grants will run from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2012.

LAP produces significant impacts on local communities' impaired driving programs, through DUI enforcement, public information and education and local task force formation.

STEP is designed to increase occupant protection usage and to reduce DUI's through hire-back enforcement.

About 300 law enforcement agencies applied for the grants this year.

5. Raider Care Volley for the Cure event is Sept. 29

 will launch its 2011-12 Raider Care fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation with a Volley for the Cure event Sept. 29.

Sponsored by the BHS volleyball and cheerleading programs, the event will feature the Lady Raiders volleyball games against conference rival Lincoln Way Central. Players will wear Raider Care t-shirts that will be on sale at the games. The sophomore contest starts at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity matchup following.

Among other activities are a cookie bake sale and a raffle featuring a volleyball signed by the Lady Raiders' varsity squad. T-shirt orders may be placed by contacting Traci Falese at FaleseTL@vvsd.org.

Donations to Raiders Care are welcome at any time and may be sent to Varsity Volleyball Coach Andrea Bercot at Bolingbrook High School.
