2. Congresswoman Judy Biggert Looking for Fall Interns

From U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert's website:

Internship opportunities - for the summer or school year - are available at both Congresswoman Biggert’s Washington, DC, and Willowbrook offices.  Although these internships generally are non-paid, college credit is an option.

Internships on Capitol Hill provide students with the opportunity to get a first-hand look at government at work, and to help Congresswoman Biggert with her important work in the House of Representatives.  Interns receive a wide array of responsibilities including providing tours of the capitol, writing constituent response letters, legislative research projects, and attending issue briefings.  District interns are also responsible for writing constituent letters, legislative research, helping with events, and general office work.

Feel free to contact either office for more information or fill out the application form (word or pdf) and return it to the office where you would like to be an intern.

3. Will County Dental Van Completed

Will County's new 40-foot single-body mobile dental van is now complete.

The van includes digital x-ray capabilities and two fully-equipped dental chairs.

Having the van will allow Will County Community Health Center dental professionals to offer services to clients at community shelters and schools who otherwise would not have access to dental care.

4. New High School Helmet Rule Takes Effect

High school sports teams were allowed to practice for the first time Wednesday.

According to a report:

The new policy focuses on the helmet reconditioning process. Typically, helmets at season's end are shipped to a reconditioning center for a process that restores the battered gear to "like-new" condition at one-third of the cost of a new helmet, which can range from $150 to $300. The helmet shells are buffed, sanded and repainted, the interior parts that don't pass inspection are replaced, and the helmets that don't pass an inspection are rejected.

But this year, the National Athletic Reconditioners Association announced it will not recertify any helmet 10 years or older. After this season, all helmets dated 2002 or older will not be accepted. The policy affects every reconditioning center, regardless of the helmet brand.

It affects high school football teams, too.
