Foreclosure Filings Down in Will County

Despite the drop, Bolingbrook ranked among the top five communities for new foreclosure filings in May.

A California-based company that tracks foreclosures released data showing a total of 696 new filings for May 2011 in Will County, a 37.52 percent decrease since May 2010.

But Will County still has the fifth-highest foreclosure rate in the state, according to RealtyTrac. Nationwide, the number of foreclosure filings has dropped 33 percent in the last year.

RealtyTrac data shows that one in every 310 homes in Will County received a foreclosure filing in May, with Joliet ranking the highest.

Bolingbrook ranked third, with 93 filings for May. There are currently 1,400 homes within the village already in some state of foreclosure, from pre-foreclosure to bank ownership, according to RealtyTrac.

Here’s how other Will County communities stacked up:

Thanks Patch for the what and the where without the how and the why. Great job of regurgitating material from a press release. Is it too much for a reader to expect to see explanations instead of just bad news? Why would Will County be ranked 5th in the state? Perhaps because it is in the top five in the state for population. Why would Joliet, Plainfield, Bolingbrook and Romeoville rank near the top for Will County filings? Perhaps because they are the top populated towns in the county. Are there specific failures to these towns/this county or are the filings due to the housing market crash and maybe we should be encouraged because foreclosures are dropping and people might be able to sell their houses again. A little perspective is needed here, please.
