70 MPH Winds Uproot Trees, Peel Shingles Off Homes in Bolingbrook

One tree reportedly fell on an occupied car Monday night.

Trees were uprooted and branches littered Bolingbrook streets after a strong line of thunderstorms passed through the village Monday night.

Tornado sirens sounded in Bolingbrook around 5 p.m., residents said. The National Weather Service reported 70 mph winds at 5:40 p.m. in Bolingbrook, and many residents reported seeing a rotating cloud over the area. According to one witness, that cloud resembled a "slow toilet bowl" with "a knob in the middle that kept trying to inch down."

The Northern Illinois FireGround Facebook page reported that a tree fell on a car on Briarcliff Road with at least one person inside. Bolingbrook police said there were no injuries in the incident.

High winds downed power lines, peeled shingles off houses, according to the NWS, and blew over "large exit signs" on I-355 and I-55.
