GOP Challenger Calls Out Sandack's Gay-Marriage Record

State Rep. Ron Sandack defended accepting donations from groups on both sides of the same-sex marriage issue, according to a report.

A challenger from his own party is calling out Republican State Rep. Ron Sandack over his endorsement of the gay marriage bill, according to a media report.

Keith Matune, who is a member of the District 99 high school board and a Downers Grove resident, is running against the incumbent Sandack for the 81st District House seat, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Matune wants Sandack to return campaign donations he received from groups that lobbied on both sides of the same-sex marriage issue, according to the report. He called accepting and keeping the money “basically cronyism.”

Sandack believes there is nothing improper about accepting the donations from groups who want to participate in the political process, and said he isn’t a “bought-and-sold item,” according to the Trib report.

The 81st District represents parts of Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Naperville, Lisle, Darien, Westmont and Woodridge.
