March Primary: Register to Vote by Feb. 18

Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots would like to remind those individuals who are not registered to vote that Tuesday, Feb. 18, is the last day to register if you wish to vote in the March 18 General Primary Election.

Under a new law, starting Jan. 1, anyone who is 17 years of age and who will be 18 years of age on the date of the immediately following General Election, can register and vote in the General Primary Election. 

The County Clerk’s Office, located at 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will remain open until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, to accommodate those persons who cannot come in during regular business hours.  

The office will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
Two forms of identification are necessary to register to vote: one must show current name and address; second identification can be name only. The State of Illinois does not require voters to declare a party affiliation when registering to vote.

Voters who were previously registered to vote in Will County are not required to register for each election unless they have changed their name or address.

If you have moved within Will County, complete the back portion of your voter’s card and return it to the County Clerk’s Office or e-mail your Change of Address to voterregistration@willcountyillinois.com. Visit www.thewillcountyclerk.com for this and other election-related information.

The polling place location on your voter’s card is where you will need to vote on election day, not just at any location. You are not required to show an ID at the polls unless your voter registration is in question (i.e. no application, address or signature has changed, etc.).  However, if you are unable to get to the polling place on election day, you do have options: (1) have an absentee ballot mailed to you or (2) you can vote early.  Information for those options can be obtained by calling the Will County Clerk’s Office at (815) 740-4632 or visiting the website.
