Bolingbrook Karate Club Students Help Raise $70,000 for Charity

15 Bolingbrook students participated in the Illinois Shotokan Karate Club's annual Kick for Cures event at Harper College in Palatine.

At Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs, the mission of instructors goes beyond teaching students the basics of self-defense—kicking and punching.

One of the main goals of the program is to teach students the value of being good citizens, said John DiPasquale, chief instructor and president of ISKC, in a news release.

To that end, he led a team of more than 500 karate students—including 15 from Bolingbrook—in the annual Kick for Cures event on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Harper College in Palatine. And he reported the students raised more than $70,000 to help fund charities that battle against devastating illnesses, including some illnesses that have affected ISKC's students and family members.

The list of Bolingbrook participants:

  • William Castillo, 6
  • Ryan Castleton, 13
  • Nayantara Das, 9
  • Alexis Floresca, 13
  • Alyssa Floresca, 7
  • Benjamin Floresca, 8
  • Enzo Floresca, 9

  • Ronan Furlong, 16
  • Benz Hoffmeyer, 12
  • Jhaeden Hoffmeyer, 8
  • Jonathan Peters, 19

"I am very pleased that our students are willing to participate in this event," DiPasquale stated in the news release. "By being involved in Kick for Cures, students are not only learning the value of volunteerism, but what it truly means to give back to the community."

He said ISKC karate students will continue to raise funds through Dec. 31 in hopes of meeting their $100,000 goal. If you'd like to sponsor an ISKC student or create your own fundraising page for Kick for Cures, please visit kickforcures.com.
