Take a Bow: DuPage Township Leaders Score Clean Sweep of Awards at State Conference

Margaret Miller honored as Senior Staff Member of the Year and Sargun Singh is named top Volunteer of the Year.

At the state fair, they call these types of awards "best of show" and the winners are sent home with big blue ribbons.

Well, this is not the state fair. But it is my own version of a "Patch on the Back" for a job well done. And it goes out today to the folks at the DuPage Township offices, 241 Canterbury Lane, Bolingbrook.

The good folks at DuPage Township nearly scored a clean sweep of awards at the 2013 Township Official of Illinois 106th Annual Conference on Nov. 12 in Springfield. The conference brings together officials from more than 1,200 townships from across Illinois to meet for educational sessions about local government issues, according to a news release supplied by Maureen Fox.

DuPage Township competed in the 15,000-and-over population category for annual awards. The township's website received recognition for Best Website. Also, the township received the 2013 Message of the Year award for overall excellence on its website, social media presence, newsletter and programs such as "Summer Bridge."

Margaret (Peg) Miller was honored as the Senior Staff Member of the Year by Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizen Service Committee (ITASCSC) members and Sargun Singh, a senior at Bolingbrook High School, was honored as the Volunteer of the Year by the Association of Illinois Township Committees on Youth (AITCOY).

"We are honored to be recognized by our peers for our efforts to effectively communicate to our constituents about township services and issues," said Bill Mayer, DuPage Township supervisor, in the news release. "These awards represent the hard work and determination of our entire township board, staff and volunteers to serve our residents well."
