Barbecue Season Has Begun - That's the Scratch

Hello again my feathered and not so feathered friends!

The weather has truly begun to change. And soon enough it will be perfect to spend our days outside! And you know what that means! If you haven’t already started, it is now barbecue season! My favorite time of year! Why you ask? Well, simply put, it is the season of heavenly smells wafting through the air and delicious meals spent outside enjoying the sunshine.

We recently had a barbecue here at the coop. All the chickens got together and made pot pies, deep fried delicacies and barbecued goodness! And when I say they got together and made them, I literally mean they were them. Hey, what can I say, chicken just tastes so darned good!

But do not fear for their well being, they were willing participants! It is the greatest honor for a chicken to become a delicious meal! It is our greatest goal in life! So, do not get in an uproar over their treatment! They were well fed and well cared for, and they all volunteered for the honor! And I must say, the mouthwatering scents wafting through the air were truly heavenly!

After enjoying such a satisfying and lovingly prepared meal, the rest of the coop got together for a fun game of chicken toss. What is chicken toss you ask? Well, it is a lot like the game you humans play called bags, where you have a little bag you toss to try and land in the center of a target, or try to knock your opponents’ bag out of the target area to gain more points for your team. But, in chicken toss, the chickens toss themselves into the air and try to land perfectly in the target area. It is quite humorous to see a bird that can not fly, toss themselves into the air and land with a soft thud in a cloud of dust!  Watching feathers flying everywhere in the excitement, is quite a wild time. Most of us try to use our wings to flutter to the center most point but, just as we are about to land, our opponents usually bump us just out of the optimal landing zone. It is loads of fun! We all have a cluckle of a time!

Spending time with friends and family, enjoying their company and having a great meal; Life does not get much better than that.

So my feathered and not so feathered friends, may you have a grand time outdoors enjoying the weather and your loved ones as you partake in a heavenly meal of delicious proportions! And perhaps in a nice game of Chicken Toss! Feathers away!
