Peparing for the 4th of July — That's the Scratch!

Preparing for the 4th of July.

The 4th of July is quickly approaching. I am preparing for the festivities! I have made my check list of things that I will need for that spectacular day!

  • Ear plugs ( so I don’t shake my feathers off at the sound of fireworks)
  • Chicken wings (not just the ones I was born with cluckle, cluckle)
  • American flags
  • Sparklers (with safety precaution gloves and adult supervision)
  • Streamers of red, white and blue
  • Corn on the cob (with plenty of butter of course)
  • Fried chicken (hopefully not from the fireworks displays)
  • A sense of pride in our country filled with freedoms
  • A sense of gratitude for those who fought for our freedoms
  • A sense of thankfulness for all we are blessed with
  • A sense of praise to be part of a history rich in strength, courage and honor
  • A knowledge and understanding of what was sacrificed for our country to be free
  • A comfort in knowing we live in the most awesome country in the world!

Readying the streamers, the flags, the sparklers and the fun, may we remember the most important part of the day and the reason for our celebrating: We are an independent nation, filled with people who have sacrificed and given all they had to give.

We are free today because they fought to ensure our way of life. Because of their strength and courage under fire, we stand alone on our own, free from tyranny and oppression. Free to choose what to wear, what to say, what to believe, what to do with our lives.  Free, free, free! Do not let this day pass with only the thought of hot dogs, fireworks, and fun. Instead, take a moment to really appreciate the freedoms we have and to thank all those in service for making our country as wonderful as it is. And really let these words sink in:

-Preamble to the Constitution of the United States-

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Because of this document we have freedoms other countries only dream of having! So it is with 100% conviction of faith and honor that I recite Our Pledge of Allegiance.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Long may Our Flag wave as a symbol of Freedom from Oppression and Justice FOR ALL!!
