Police chase Friday night

I just got home from work not long before 1AM and had a rather scary experience. A police car suddenly flashed its lights and sped around me nearly giving me a heart attack while I was on route 53. After I turned down another road, I had to keep pulling over as no less than 5 squad cars flew past me going the opposite direction. Then a minute later I see squad car lights coming up from behind in my rearview mirror so I pulled over just as a blue suburban(?) type looking truck speeds around  and no less than 10-12 squad cars fly by me in pursuit of it like bats out of hell! I was so nervous I actually pulled up onto the grass over the curb and out of the street and stayed put until I was sure no more cars were coming. I just moved here recently and have never experienced anything like that before! I would love to know what was going on as I was a bit shaken up when I got home.  Anyone else notice the insanity??
