2 Men Shot in Brunswick Zone Attack

Romeoville police say the incident may be gang-related but they do not know if the victims, one from Joliet and the other from Lockport, were targeted.

Two men were shot as they left Brunswick Zone XL in Romeoville Tuesday in an attack that's being investigated as possibly gang-connected, Romeoville Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said.

The incident occurred at about 12:50 a.m. as the 735 N. Center Blvd. business, which is a combination bowling alley, laser tag, arcade and restaurant, was closing for the night, Lucchesi said.

As many as 30 people were in the parking lot when a dark-colored, 4-door car pulled up and fired shots that struck an 18-year-old man fromJoliet and a 26-year-old man from Lockport before speeding away, he said.

The two victims, whose names were not released, were driven by friends to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. The Joliet victim, shot in the left arm, was treated and released Tuesday. The Lockport victim was hit in the abdomen and listed in good condition Wednesday afternoon, Lucchesi said.

Police have recovered shell casings from the scene but Lucchesi declined to say whether gunfire was exchanged, if all of the shots were fired from the car or if there was more than one gun involved.

It's also not clear whether the victims were targeted or if the shots were aimed at the larger group of which the victims were a part, he said. He would not say whether the victims were cooperating with police.

Given the nature of the drive-by attack, investigators suspect it could be gang-related but there is not enough evidence yet to say so definitively, Lucchesi said.

Anyone who has information about the shooting or suspects is asked to call 815-886-7219.
