4 Jailed, 2 Officers Hurt in Christmas Day Brawl in Bolingbrook

When officers arrived to investigate the report of a domestic problem in the 400 block of South Palmer Drive, the conflict escalated, Bolingbrook police Lt. Mike Rompa said.

And you thought your family had trouble getting along on Christmas.

Four people were arrested and two others were released after they posted bond following an early-morning Christmas Day free-for-all in the 400 block of South Palmer Drive in Bolingbrook.

One of the combatants suffered a head injury and was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Bolingbrook police Lt. Mike Rompa said. He said two officers sustained minor injuries and their equipment was damaged during the struggle.

Rompa said the following individuals are facing felony charges in connection with the case; all four were arrested and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility:

  • Juan Espinoza Jr., 24, of 402 S. Palmer, Bolingbrook, was charged domestic battery, aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer.
  • Juan Espinoza Sr., 49, of 402 S. Palmer, Bolingbrook, was charged with domestic battery, aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer.
  • Ricardo Espinoza, 28, 402 S. Palmer, Bolingbrook, was charged with domestic battery, aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and damage to state-supported property.
  • Rosa M. Espinoza, 46, of 402 S. Palmer, Bolingbrook, was charged with aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer.

Two others—Erika Espinoza and James K. Faught—were charged with resisting officers and obstructing justice and bonded out, Rompa said.

Rompa said officers responded to call for help regarding a domestic problem at 12:52 a.m. Wednesday on the 400 block of South Palmer Drive.

"Upon arrival, officers were greeted at the door by a female motioning them to hurry into the house," Rompa said. "Officers requested additional units to respond at that time."

The reason: A fight.

"Upon entering the house, they saw subjects fighting in the back living room and the officers attempted to break up the fight, which erupted into a physical fight with two subjects and the officers," Rompa said. "Backup units arrived, and we subsequently arrested the rest of the people in the residence."

Rompa said medics were called because Ricardo Espinoza suffered a head injury. He was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and later jailed.
