Accused Bolingbrook Mom-Murderer Appears in Court

Michael Marzo is being charged with killing his mother at her home on Dec. 2.

The 23-year-old Bolingbrook man accused of in their home Dec. 2 appeared in a Will County court room Tuesday in front of Judge Richard C. Schoenstedt for a preliminary hearing.

Michael Marzo is being held on a $500,000 bond in the Will County Adult Detention Facility and faces one count of first-degree murder with intent to kill or do great bodily harm and two counts of first-degree murder with a strong probability of death or great bodily harm, in the death of his mother, Shirley Marzo, 53.

Police found Shirley Marzo dead in the bathroom of her home on the 500 block of Nassau Avenue after responding to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute between a mother and her son.

In a press release, Lt. Michael Rompa said a female caller told dispatchers her mother was dead. Officers responding to the home discovered Shirley Marzo in the bathroom with apparent stab wounds to her back.

Police found Michael Marzo later that day in Chenoa, about 85 miles south of , and took him into custody.

Marzo sat stoically through most of the hearings and occasionally laughed with a fellow inmate. 

Marzo’s next court appearance is set for Jan. 10 and a pretrial hearing will take place Jan. 24 at the Will County courthouse in Joliet.
