Bolingbrook Crime Rate Drops for Fourth Straight Year

See whether murder, rape, arson, burglary and more increased or decreased in Bolingbrook from 2010 to 2011.

Bolingbrook’s crime rate dropped for the fourth straight year, according to crime statistics recently released by the FBI.

Once riddled with a 25.09 crime rate in 2001, the village has seen its rate decrease to 18.86 in 2011.

The crime rate is the number of violent crimes that occur per 1,000 residents and is calculated by dividing the village’s total population by number of violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, assault), property crimes (burglary, larceny, car theft) and arson.

Incidents of thefts and arson decreased from 2010 to 2011. Murder stayed constant, and rape, robbery, battery, burglary and vehicle theft increased.

Here’s a breakdown of the numbers:

Crime 2008 2009 2010 2011 Murder 0 4 1 1 Rape 31 37 12 25 Robbery 64 41 12 49 Battery 126 106 80 86 Burglary 194 201 163 261 Theft 969 914 1,053 915 Vehicle Theft 58 62 40 45 Arson 3 6 8 6 TOTAL 1,445 1,371 1,396 1388 Population 70,977 71,403 73,366 73,587 Crime Rate 20.36 19.2 19 18.86

There are plenty of ways to keep up on Bolingbrook news:

That is certainly what you see when you look at the numbers reported, but many folks don't bother. Especially if they have worked with the BB police in the past. My van was stolen once (a newer model, maybe 2 years old), when it was recovered they didn't take any fingerprints or even consider looking for the thief. This was back in 1995, but that memory leaves me wanting when I have to consider spending my time filling out reports and being grilled about my stolen item. Why bother. Last spring when our bikes were stollen, we chaulked it up to bad luck and moved on.

Towns can manipulate the UCR codes in their favor to down play certain crimes , to make it look good for their Town and make it look like crime is dropping.

When you throw out an accusation like that, you'd better be able to back it up with proof. Otherwise, you're just another big mouth throwing feces on the wall.

Steve here's a start and I hope the feces doesn't hit you in the face. Care for more proof! http://m.jsonline.com/watchdog/watchdogreports/hundreds-of-assault-cases-misreported-by-milwaukee-police-department-v44ce4p-152862135.html

Steve tell me when to stop with the proof. Say Uncle. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/dallas/headlines/20091214-Experts-Dallas-undercount-of-assaults-6330.ece

You don't have proof, you have articles about Milwaukee and Dallas. As usual, you just throw crap in the air.

Steve articles aren't proof. I guess none of us should read the newspaper anymore. Or do you know how to read. What other examples do you need.
