Bolingbrook Cyclist Busted for 'Pedaling' Cocaine: Police

MANS unit officers work undercover to track the habits of an alleged Bolingbrook drug dealer and make an arrest on Wednesday afternoon at Route 53 and Briarcliff Road.

A 38-year-old Bolingbrook man who allegedly peddled his wares—crack cocaine—while also pedaling around town on his bicycle was taken off the street and sent to jail Wednesday by officers working with the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad, according to Joliet MANS Director Mike Weber.

Demetrius A. Walker, 38, of 516 Jill, Bolingbrook, was charged with manufacturing and delivering cocaine—a felony—after he was booked by MANS officers at about 2 p.m. at Route 53 and Briarcliff Road, near the McDonald's parking lot, Weber said.

Walker was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and was awaiting a court appearance Thursday to determine his bail. Weber said MANS officers worked undercover to track Walker's bicycle drug business and were able to make purchases of crack cocaine from him on multiple occasions.

"It just got to the level where he wasn't going to deliver us any more, so we arrested him (Wednesday)," Weber said. "He was arrested by himself—on his bicycle. He was selling drugs on his bicycle. That's a little something interesting for you.

"We didn't think he had the capability to deliver bigger quantities. He was just a street deliverer working in a heavily populated area. We didn't want him to be there any more. We wanted to get rid of him. I don't want to make it sound like we killed him—we sent him to jail."

Walker has on his record a number of previous bookings, including charges for domestic battery, parole violation and driving on a suspended license, according to Will County Sheriff's Office records.
