Bolingbrook to Purchase New 'Jaws of Life' with Federal Grant
The two new "jaws of life" will replace two older models used by the Bolingbrook Fire Department to extricate people from cars.
The village of Bolingbrook will purchase two new "jaws of life" for the Bolingbrook Fire Department using funds from a federal grant.

The village recently received a federal grant for $44,141.60 from the Department of Homeland Security, according to the Chicago Tribune. The total cost for the equipment will be $55,176, according to village documents.

The "jaws of life" are hydraulic rescue tools that Bolingbrook fire officials use to extricate people following car accidents.
Fire Chief Dave Litton told the Trib that the older "jaws of life" can't always cut through the harder materials used in newer car models. With I-55 and I-355 running through town, the Bolingbrook Fire Department responds to four or five highway car accidents a week, according to Litton.
