Bolingbrook Firefighters Shop for Operation Christmas

Bolingbrook fire officials and volunteers shopped at Kohl's Friday to purchase thousands of dollars of toys for kids in need.

With a Bolingbrook fire truck parked outside Friday, Bolingbrook fire officials and Operation Christmas loaded up toys, clothes, accessories and other gifts for Bolingbrook families in need.

It's the 12th year Bolingbrook Fire Department has partnered with Operation Christmas. The organization provides gifts for more than 500 Bolingbrook families.

The Bolingbrook Fire Department used more than $4,000 in grants and donations to purchase gifts. Money came from Bolingbrook Fire Department, representatives of Bolingbrook Firefighters Local 3005, Chicago Office Technology Group, Target, Kohl’s and Bradlink Ventures.

Volunteers with Operation Christmas, according to a release, make a special effort each year to ensure every family who needs help receives it. They do not have any income requirements. Families request help at their headquarters at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center. Each Bolingbrook family is given two large gifts per child and any small gifts that have been donated.
