Bolingbrook Man Allegedly Knocks Girlfriend Out, Packs Her in Van Before Being Busted: Police

James R. Barnhill is facing charges of domestic battery and unlawful restraint following an incident on Saturday night in the 200 block of Hywood Lane.

A 45-year-old Bolingbrook man was arrested on charges of domestic battery/physical contact and unlawful restraint—a felony—after police responded to call for help on Saturday night in the 200 block of Hywood Lane, Lt. Mike Rompa said.

James R. Barnhill, 45, of 153 W. Briarcliff Road, Bolingbrook, was taken into custody near a pond outside the Hywood Lane subdivision after officers conducted a search for him and the alleged victim in the case—his girlfriend—Rompa said.

He said officers were called to a residence on the 200 block of Hywood Lane at 11:28 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30.

"It was alleged James Barnhill struck his girlfriend and knocked her unconscious," Rompa said. "Barnhill then picked the victim up and put her into his van. The reporting party tried to stop him, was unsuccessful and Barnhill entered the van and drove away."

Rompa said Bolingbrook police officers "utilized all resources possible to locate Barnhill and the victim."

And, after searching for about one hour, they were successful.

"They located the disoriented victim near the residence," Rompa said. "The victim woke up in the van several blocks from the incident and walked home."

Rompa said she was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for evaluation. He said Barnhill was located near a pond outside the subdivision, taken into custody, interviewed, processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
