Man Released from Hospital Charged with Attempted Murder

Fred Spangenberg was taken into custody on an active warrant and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility on Monday.

The Bolingbrook man who was hospitalized June 7 for injuries he sustained in a car accident was charged with the attempted murder of his wife Monday evening, police said.

Bolingbrook Police Lt. Mike Rompa said Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center officials advised police that Fred Spangenberg, of the 100 block of Fairwood Drive, was going to be released form the hospital's care Monday. Soon thereafter, Spangenberg was taken into custody on an active warrant and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. 

According to the police report, police responded to the the Spangenberg's home June 7 at 6:40 a.m., after Spangenburg’s wife reported she had been stabbed by Fred Spangenberg and had lost a substantial amount of blood.

The wife told police Spangenberg had left in a minivan.

After several agencies were contacted regarding Spangenberg’s possible destination, police learned he had crashed his car while driving southbound on Interstate 55 near the Route 30 exit in a single car rollover accident.
