Bolingbrook Police In Line to Get Federal Grant Money

The Bolingbrook Police Department was one of nearly 20 departments to receive federal grant money that will help fight and prevent substance abuse.

The is in line to receive a portion of a $5.2 million federal grant handed out by the U.S. Department of Justice aimed at tackling substance abuse.

According to a news release from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, is one of nearly 20 local law enforcement agencies to receive the Edward Bryne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, named after a New York City police officer killed while on duty.

The money will be used to purchase computers and other equipment, patrol cars and help fund specialized training, a Chicago Tribune report said.

Bolingbrook Lieutenant Mike Rompa said the department had been contacted about being a recipient, but was still waiting to hear the final amount of the award.

According to the Tribune report, the City of Chicago is receiving more than $4 million of the grant money, while the Kankakee Police Department is in line to get $24,000 in funding, a The Daily Journal report said.
